  1. Congrats on the purchase. $5100 is a pretty good price. I, myself, have the same issue with the steering wheel. I was thinking of replacing it with a used IS 300 steering wheel. Some work involved but I think it'll be well worth it.
  2. Well, I checked underneath the c.d changer and amp and all is o.k. I disconnected the amp thinking it may be the problem but when I checked the stereo, the front speakers were now giving off the bassy thuds and squeals. Has anyone had this problem before? Could it be the unit? What to look for? Any ideas? Much appreciated.....
  3. Thanx Brys. I'll check it out. I had noticed some dirt, dust, dry leaves but no water. I'll check once more.
  4. ....no ideas? Anybody? Bewler?........... Bewler?........... Bewler?.......
  5. Thanks for the info on the A/C Comp. Helps a lot.
  6. Had the same exact problem on my SC400.... twice. Both times= alternator. BTW: How much did the A/C Compressor go for? Did you do it yourself? Need a new compressor myslef. Mechanic who took a look at it told me it was gonna run me $800.
  7. Just when you thought you'd seen it all. I was driving and ,all of a sudden, my stereo goes nuts. No music, just bassy thuds and squeeks...... really loud.... to the point if I didn't turn it off the speakers and stock sub could have blown. I should mention that my stereo's stock with a changer in the trunk.... no mods. I'm assuming a cable got loose and it's touching metal, but I wanted to seek some help and knowledge from you guys before I start playing Mr. Fix-it and start taking things apart. Thanks
  8. Had the same problem. My first question is does anything work? Heat etc? No power whatsoever? If so, then it was the same problem I had. Check the cigarette lighter for a coin inside. It's a blown fuse. If not the case please disregard all I said and it's a new wrinkle in the brain.
  9. I had seen lextech on ebay before. Ironically I was planning to buy from them. Thanks for the assistance guys. Have any of you changed the bulbs yourself? If so, is it hard? I'd assume it's just pulling out the old and popping in the new. Since you're pulling out the units yourself to send it in, can't you just replace them while you're at it? I've had the car since 92 and still can't give it up....regardless of the problems. Yeah, I've noticed all the problems I've had over the years are not just mine but everyone elses.... - Crack on the center air vent - Struts for the trunk going out - Gauge cluster / Climate unit bulbs goin out The list goes on but I LOVE this car soo much. Luckily the only major thing I've had to replace was the radiator. This will be the daily driver until it completely dies on me. I'll never give it up. The S2K will be the fun weekend car =)
  10. Blk and getting a paint job in a month or so.... going Blue / Grey. I'm done with Blk... to much hassle with maintanence.
  11. Some of my gauge cluster lights (parts of the rpm's and speed) have gone out. Also, some of the button lights on the stereo and air conditioner / heater have gone out. Any suggestion where to go to get the replacement bulbs and pics / instructions on how to do them myself? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  12. I'm lookin to get a new paint job too. Some jackhole keyed the entire passanger side of my SC400. (front to back) When my father got his M5 redone, it cost him about $3k. And they did an incredible job. If you're getting blk, you're lookin at $3k. If you're looking to get a color with a pearl, the price goes up a few notches. I had blk cars all my life (including the SC) and I'm finally fed up with the mantanence.... going blue/grey. Let us know what color choice you made and post some pics!
  13. I just recently changed my pads. (4 days ago) Went with OEM parts and it drives like a dream. Maybe the original owner had put cheapy aftermarkets from PepBoys or something before selling. Got them for 50 some-odd-bucks (2 front) from www.irontoad.com. Really happy. If I'm totally wrong with the pads scenerio, redsully's on the mark.
  14. Not a problem. Let me know how it goes.
  15. When changing my brake pads.....thanks to the help and guidance from the gang here........ I noticed my struts are finally leaking. Any suggestions on struts? My SC400 is a daily driver so I don't want anything to stiff. Should I go aftermarket? Should I go OEM? I don't remember how the OEM's used to feel. I want something plush enough to not hurt my back everytime I go over a bump on the road, but don't want something too plush. Any experience on aftermarket struts? Also, any suggestions for swing arms and sway bars? Would they be compatible with OEM struts?........if I were to go with OEM.
  16. Now that I think about it, I did feel a slight slip while taking off from a red light a few days ago.
  17. Did you check the color chart? It has the year, make, and models that come with the specific colors. Accordign to the list and specs, it's Ivory # 06
  18. I thought I should post a thread before having it checked out. Just recenty the overdrive light on the gauge cluster has been blinking. It doesn't happen too often. This happens when the car's NOT in overdrive----> when the light's on constantly. Any ideas on what it could be?
  19. I've only heard good things from this site. Hope it helps.... gonna plan on buying from them soon; my seats are somewhat cracked too. http://www.leatherrepairkits.com/
  20. O.K. New problem. I tried to remove the 2 bolts, but they won't budge. I practically crapped my pants trying to have the bolt move a mm. Any suggestions on how to get the damn bolt off?
  21. Thanks much Bubbles. The pic helps out more than you can imagine. Also, on a completely different topic, where can I go and get a new motor and cable for the power windows... I'm assuming they all come together since the cable runs through the motor. Should I check out local junkyards or can I get it somewhere else?
  22. The 2 bolts, not the ones that hold the caliper assy in place, have a rubber boot of some sort below it. Are you refering to those bolts being removed? Pics would be great. Much appreciated.
  23. Hey Gang, Newbie here, I'm going to attempt to change my brake pads on a 92 SC 400. I checked out other threads and can't get my question answered. So far I've gathered I need to remove the center portion of the caliper assy. The thing is, other threads have said that there are 2 bolts holding the center portion I'm supposed to remove. On mine, there are 4 bolts (allen wrench style). 2 bolts holding caliper assy. 2 bolts above the 2 I just mentioned 4 bolts in the center (allen wrench style) Also, since my pads are pretty worn, and the new pads are a lot thicker, how do I get them to fit in? How do I push the pistons back to make room for the new pads? Any help would be much appreciated.
  24. Newbie here and I need some help guys. I know this is an old thread but fits the descriptions to my questions.... didn't make sense to create a new thread when this already exists. I needed help changing the front brake pads of my 92 sc 400. I was wondering if anyone can give me the directions. I got kinda lost on the removing the 2 bolts on the center portion of the caliper part.... The caliper assy has 2 bolts, then there are another 2 bolts and on the center there are 4.(removed with an allen wrench) Which bolts do I remove to get to the pads? Also, my pads are farely worn out, how can I push the pistons back so that the new, thicker, pads can fit? Much help would be greatly appreciated.
