  1. Hi ALL, my first post/reply but I have been reading the forums all month for suggestions & enlightenment.  Just last week I had my f&r valve cover gaskets, PCV valve, fuel filter and spark plugs changed all at one time (mainly bc of the leaking gaskets).  Cost me $330 total at an outside mechanic shop.  While driving home the check engine light came on.  Took the car back to them and they say it has an EGR air flow sensor prroblem (didn't ask for the code).. $180 to fix it.  I called Lexus dealership and they say I don't have that sensor in my 95 ES300.  ???  Took the car to Autozone and they say it's the P0401 EGR Insufficient flow code.  Autozone suggested I try cleaning the EGR valve first before installing a new one.  My question is, could the mechanic shop who worked on my gaskets caused the EGR valve problem or is it a common problem after changing VC gaskets?  Thanks for your replies.

I don't know the answer to your question, but i am sure someone will chime in.

These guys are great here! ;)

I just wanted to say welcome and your car is very nice! :)

it is a common problem...IF the vaccum or EGR lines are not reinstalled correctly.

  2. Did you get your bulb replaced? I need to do the same with my ES250... I think the only bulb I have out is the one of the license plate lights...

The Liscense plate light is not whaty triggers it. rplace the light, but dont expect it will make the light go away.

i may go tomorrow and get the rest of the bulbs, i have a power steering belt to return.

  3. the ebrake is also connected to the same light.

Josh, sounds like you got a loose connection and or the cable is very tight on you ebrake.

If the light is not on when the ebrake is off, I wouldn't be concerned.  There is a way to loosen up the cable a little.

    steviej

the ebrake cable is ANYTHING but tight, i think the connection is loose. the light comes on when i hit a bump at certian times or if i turn...

  4. hey i didn't notice this thread. well welcome to LOC 1SICKLEX! U seem to be familiar, hmmmm.:whistles:

    Denny- hint:Rx900

    I didn't notice this either.

Welcome 1SICK! :) So your name is Mike? I did not know that.

neither did i, until someone said it

YOU CANT HANDLE TO TRUTH! [/jack nicholson]

No you didn't say i could call you Josh, Josh. LOL :D

    [shrek] aww..come on...i...i was just kidding [/shrek]

  5. you can but that is only if the box is secured properly as well. or you are looknig to short out the wires.

i am going to be building a custom floor with a trap door in the trunk, so i will probably just screw the amp to that then, thatway if they take my sub, they dont get my amp too! LOL. now i just need a wiring harness for my HU, i dont want to cut and splice the stock one. then i need to bypassmy factory amp, again, i dont want to cut and splice.

  6. at least your motor makes noicse, mine doesnt even do that LOL.

Yeah i dont know if you ahve checked out ebay, but they usually have the entire motor and mast assembly for like 24.95, if you look around then you will definetly get a good one on there. Thats what i did with my es250.

    Chris

man, i have spent so much on school and keeping this car running (just spent $340 on front brakes, only to find out it needs a steering rack too...$1300!!!) that i dont have even $20 to put in my gas tank, and that the truth, im living payday to payday...but when i come into some decent cash again, i will look into it, besides, its not so bad having the antenna standing straight up.

  7. Should i change my oil again just to put a new filter on? Is there a pretty good chance that im not going to have a problem if i just put a different filter on in 2500-3000 miles.

In other words is this something that needs to be changed right now, or at the next oil change?

    Thanks

    Chris

many people use frams, most never have problems, btu their filter capabilites arent all that great either, i woudl just change it, you dont have to change the oil compoletely, just the filter, pull the old one off, and stick the new one on, then top off.

i would go with STP, Bosch, K&N or toyota OEM.

its up to you, now that you know, dont put another one on, you should be ok if you do a regular change interval. the problems arise mainly when the oil gets old, with fram filters, they dont liek dirty oil. i used one on a chevy astro van and i ended up replacing a motor, due to the faulty anti drainback valve, crap that had clogged in the fliter came out and got in the pasages, went through the crankcase and spun the #2, 4, and 5 rod bearings on the 4.3L V6. not a big deal, i had a 350 in the garage on a hoist...i just swapped in the 350 and made it into a drag van, my dad and i called it the "draggin shaggin wagon!" :D

but the point is, that it does happen, i woudl never go over 2500 miels on a fram oil filter ever, but thats because i would never put another one on any car. but you should be alright this time, just dump it after 3K.

  8. Hi All,

I just installed the Kenwood Double din 7015, with Sirius and the Nav in the LX470 but the amp is not working with the system.  I have a Mark Levinson factory headunit and speakers.  Does anyone know why this is the case?  Thanks in Advance.

    David

pretty sure you have to bypass the factory amp if the HU is aftermarket.

So you think I should just take out the amp and get a new one?

well from what i understand, the amplifier in the HU shoudl be enough for your stock speakers...but if you have aftermarket speakers and are looking for that extra "kick" then yes, amp them with an aftermarket amplifire. that factory amp has some kind of device on it that makes it so that it cant be used with anything except Lexus Factory Head units im pretty sure. it may even be a modulation or some kind of signal that the Lexus HU sends to the amp. obviously with an aftermarket HU, that signal is not present. i could be entirely wrong about this, but heres a quick way to find out.

by come color matching wire that matches the wiring harness colors running into and out of the amp. cut the harnesses (if this doesnt work, they can be re spliced later) at either end of the amplifier. splice the wires together. this will bypass the amplifier. if your HU puts sound through the speakers when the amp is bypassed, then the issue was witht he amp.

they make electrical connectors that will splice the wires back together in the event that it isnt the issue, but i think that it is.

i am weary to cut the wires too my friend. LOL. i am also weary to put my HU in my car because my dash speakers in my ES250 are an odd size (something liek 3.8") and if i blow them, i wont be able to replace them with aftermarket ones...they just dont make them in that size LOL. so i would pretty much have to rewire and re speaker the entire car.

    Thanks Army!

no problem, did you find the issue?

  9. Has anyone ever seen a battered, well-abused LS400?

I have seen my first one.  Today at one of our (we have 2 here in town and 4 in the metro area) local Super Wal-Mart parking lots I seen a blue 1995, 1996 or 1997 LS400 in the parking lot- just a few cars up from mine.  The rear bumper had a big rip in the cover and the trunk had a big dent, as if they had backed into a pole at about 15 mph.  It had been done for a while, as the paint was gone there and it had a light coating of surface rust.  It had numerous scrapes on the driver side, as well as a few dents on the LF fender.  The passenger side was even worse, as it had a fairly large bashed in place on the front part of the RF bumper and the parking lights there were broken.  The windows were so dirty- that I do not know how they could even see out of them.  The interior was also dirty and cluttered and looked like it had never been cleaned.  There was also numerous scrapes on the passenger side.  I took note of all of this because I had never seen a Lexus in this poor condition before.

Come to southern california...more specifically orange county. You'll see lots of ratty Lexus (and I'm talking about LS400's) being driven by college students that have been given to them by their parents. These are hand-me-downs that the students do not take care of. You've got to have a lot of money to hand someone a Lexus, pay for the upkeep and college and....oh well. Some of us had to work our way through college so this kind of thing is particularly aggravating when there is no pride of ownership for such a beautiful car.

I feel your pain. I am also a college student who got a 1994 LS400 from my parents. They now drive a 2000 LS430. However, I do take pride for my car, and I just love the way how 1994 looks (mind you, I find older model LS prettier than newer ones. 94LS400 is even bigger in storage than 2000LS430). Anyway, college students are actually quite busy, and since I live in Michigan (U of Mich, Ann Arbor). It is especially tougher to keep the car in shape in snow season. At most, I bring the car to a DIY car-wash place.

you shoudl also do a hand wax 3 times a year, at least, the car was h wax doesnt cut it.

  10. Sprung for the bosch filter last time, $6.99. my car is worth it HAHA.

Would you consider using a Toyota filter or a Fram filter in a new German luxury car like a Mercedes? Or just a Bosch filter or Mercedes filter?

frams have issues with their anti-drainback valves not working correctly...this =very bad for your engine...

there are 2 oils i would NEVER EVER USE and they are Pennzoil and Quaker State. i have had engines open that have had these oils in them for over 75K, and the oil passeges are clogged and GUNKED with nasty crap. these are the only oils i have seen do this, and i have sen it in 5 totally different engines. although none werre toyotas, it doesnt make me feel any better about using it.
