  1. The dealership finally was able to speak with the warranty company today; it has been hell trying to deal with this aftermarket warranty since the start of the tranny issue.  Unfortunately the news I received from the dealership was not the greatest :( :  The warranty company won't pay for a brand-new, warranty covered transmission on my ES.  Instead, they will pay a certain amount of $$$ towards a Lexus remanufactured transmission, and I will end up covering the difference.  I know my dealership tried their hardest to fight for a new transmission in the last 3 weeks, but the reality is that it is generally a hard sell with an aftermarket warranty company.  They work almost like an insurance company, one who is willing to lowball the affected item(s).

At any rate, the transmission will be eventually be replaced, but not with a new one like I had hoped for   I may have to suck this one up and let the dealership handle the tranny work  <_<  My dealership and I will come up with a firm plan for the work on my transmission within the next 2 days, so I will keep this posted.

as i said on CL, find a lawyer.

  2. Hi ArmyofOne!! :)

    [and everyone else]

No new updates - I'm afraid. The dealer STILL has my car. But you would think - at least - that they would have phoned to let me know that they're still working on it. But they didn't. Oh well. A bit rude - I thought. [especially when you consider the fact that I phoned home every half hour after 2 pm to see if they left any messages] But... what can you do.

How much is all this going to cost? I don't know. But I've left a note with Santa telling him that it might be a lean Christmas at MY house. [maybe milk - but probably no cookies]

The Ford Tempo I was referring to was one of the first ones. [like a 1984 model] Those Tempo's [and Mercury Topaz's] had a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder that produced a heart-stopping [lol] 84 h.p. OH BABY!! Team that with an automatic and have it beat my LS in a race - and I'm sure you'll understand WHY that was so upsetting to me!! lol The Contour/Mystique was a more up-level car than the Tempo/Topaz.

As an aside - I'm going to miss the ES300 I'm driving!!

    Craig!! :)

ah yes, the gen I tempo, an american classic

i can see why that woudl upset you, IIRC that car had an estimated 0-60 of 14.6 seconds in an auto version...damn, thats slow...

on topic: its not unusual for dealers to not phoen while they have your car to let you knwo they still have it. its something not many people think about, they figure "he must know we have it, its not at his house" :D

seriously, its not a custom to call unless there is another problem. although daily updates would be nice, there is no written rule that requiers them.

    it will be ok.

  3. more than likely. i wish i was closer (im in DFW) i woudl swing by and take a look-see.

clicking in the drivetrain can only be a handfulof things, if its not motor related (it would do it when engine rev's, even out of gear) then it is CV joints, a nail in tire or a bad wheel bearing. bearings do not normally click, but i have seen it before.

Actually, I am currently in Brenham going to school...but that drive wouldn't just be a "swing-by". I do not believe the clicking has anything to do with the engine.

I truly hate taking my car to a mechanic b/c I'm paranoid that they are going to tinker with something and cause me more problems. Also, being that I am a young female, I feel that they are likely to take advantage of my inexperience with cars. They see a young woman driving a Lex and think that daddy will pay for it all.

Well daddy doesn't pay for :censored:

PM me with the location. doesnt have to be exact, but if you coudl give me a reference point, im still kind of new to this state. i have no idea where Brenham TX is. probably nowhere close to here, and it woudl be at least a week before i could get out there. but for the price of gas i would gladly take a look see (if 210 miles, the gas will be $40 total, because i would need to put gas in my car before i leave here and then before i come back.

chances are your CV joint(s) are probably bad.

you know what, ill do you one better, ill just tell you how to check them, that way i dont have to make time to go out there (work +school=BUSY!) and you dont have to pay anything LOL.

there is an EASY way to check these.

get under the car and look at the inside of your wheels/rims. behind the wheel connected to a long shaft about 1 inch in diameter will be a ribbed, cone shaped boot. one on the outside by the wheel and one on the inside colose to the engine/tranny. if those rubber boots are dryrotted/tyorn/leaking grease, they need replaced.

if you do decide you want to get them fixed, i know a great mechanic in dallas (garland) as do most of the members here.

  4. i'd sell the whole car because if the former owner ngelected

it enough to cause engine sludge, then the transmisson and other

componets could soon fail too.  And the "new" engine your

getting isn't really factory new. It's a rebuilt by an american

rebuilder using american car quality parts, gaskets and fit

    tolerance standards.

    dude...

i dont think that the engine sludge could be avoided in most cases, thats why there was a TSB, and also why LEXUS (read manufacturer) is replacing the motor with a NEW one. they are the manufacturer. they can do that.

LEXUS, does not subcontract engine rebuilds. the do it with ALL lexus OEM parts.

hence the only thing not replaced are the block and the head castings, everything else is new inside.

Colton: i would go aheadand have them check the steering rack and pinion, all the suspension and the bushings. the front suspension and bushings are probably wearing out.

my rack and pinion becgan showing signs of wear around 125K.

  5. Follow-up:

Went to autozone and the obd code was po420.  The guy said I ahd a bad cat.  My issue is that this happened right after I filled up.  How do I know if I did something to the gas cap, if it is because I filled up while the motor was running, b/c I topped off the tank or because I drove it close to empty?

Just bought the car from a group in Addison.  I am thinking about calling them this afternoon.

Would love to hear the thoughts of the forum.

    Need to add another bit.

Called a Lexus mechanic, told him the story and he told me to go to Autozone and clear the code.  Disconnecting the battery is a temp fix, but it will come back.

the P0420 is a Catalytic converter deficiency, or something to that effect. more than likely the cat fried from the abnormal fuel mixture, it had to be on its way out anyway though.

the code will keep recurring until you fix the problem. if the car came with a warranty, have them replace the cats. sometimes, ESPECIALLY if the tank is near empty when you do it, refilling while running the car can cause bad cats. basically it introduces extra pressure into the fuel system and floods out the motor. causing to to run with more fuel than its supposed to. this breaks down the catalytic conv. im not sur how exactly this occurs, but i have seen it happen before.

so dont do it again LOL.

Does this mean that they cover it at their loss?

thats gonna depend on weather or not you tell them about you filling up while the car was running (which is illegal in most states believe it or not!)

  6. I hope that you removed the cover on that timing belt.  I mean, I know that Ford probably doesn't make the BEST car around, but not even covering the timing belt?!

i removed the top cover. i liked it off. and before you say anything, i had had it removed for over 200,000 miles. changed the Timing belts at 65,000 mile intervals since car was new. :D

  7. I think Lowes has it for $99, I'd say $150 fully equipped with pads and backing plate.

that is actually NOT bad. very reasonable, considering he will not need another one for 10 years...

hmmm, i may be stopping at lowes with my homie LOL (comin' in from anchorage thursday).

thanks for the tips. ill be lookig into this further. any idea whichpads i should get? i see there is a choice.

  8. I have a cowoker named Sal. Well today, I got in his car with him to go around the corner on the lunchbreak, to a gas station to get some munchies. On the way back, he lights up a pipe! i (not knowing he smoked weed) was surprised and very unconfortable. I have a Unrine Analysis on monday for the military and this dude is fixing to give me a contact high! He offered me some and at that moment, i was like, no, this aint gonna work. At the next light, when he stopped, I got out and told him i would walk back. I said i wanted no part of what he was doing. I also said that it makes no difference to me if he does it or not, I just dont want to be around it. and i proceeded to walk the 3 or 4 blocks back to work. i arrived ~15 mins. late, and was asked to give a reason as to why, (it wasnt a big deal, my boss, john was worried about me more than anything.) I told him i just lost track of time. He was like "oh, ok, no biggie, i just was kinda worried as you have never been late to work or back from lunch. "

Sal didnt talk to me the rest of the day and kind of scowled at me.

now, i know i shouldnt have covered for him, but its his business. i dont want to get him in trouble, but damn, he could have just ruined my military career.

What should i do? If i tell john the reason i was really late, He could lose his job. And if i say something, he doesnt lose his job, it will make working there much more difficult, for lack of communication...

and whats more, if i fail this urinalysis because i have grass in my system, my career could be totally ruined!  help! :cries:

I think you did the right thing...I believe you covered for your coworker as well, and that was honorable. However, here is my question what happens to the next coworker who is in this guys car? what if you don't say anything else, and drop it, what will happen to the next person? I guess I'm concerned that your coworker will think it is ok to light up with anyone at anytime, even if it is "his" car. Will it be wrong for your to communicate your reasons, and maybe let him know the next person won't be as considerate to cover for him? Just a thought. Overall you did the right thing.

well, i will know wednesday if i passed the UA.

as for sal, i sat him down in my office today and had a nice chat.

i told him i was not going to management with it, HOWEVER...if i saw/heard of it again, i would. i told him i dont care what he does at hsi home/in his car, as long as he doesnt bring it to work and he doesnt do it on company time, its none of my business. but the minute that he involbes me, or any of my other employees by showing up for work stoned or doing it on his lunchbreak, he will be terminated, no ifs ands or buts. i said, "im not tellin you you have to quit, but i am telling you that if i hear anything else about it, or you do it arond me or any of my people, you wont like the consequences. when you bring it to work it becomes a saftey hazard, and i will not have it here, is that clear?"

i think i got the point across. i was strictly professional, while being very firm.

  9. Hey sup, i am a current 3 year owner of my 92 es300, i had gone into a accident with my front bumber recently, The front support or frame has been pushed in to the right a litter enough to break my headlights out of place, my hood was also busted because of the push in, I was wonderiin how much would it cost to pull my frame back together. I am sure that someone had gone thru this before where u hit into someone's back and cause your hood to pop up and causing your front bumper to get pust in a little ruining the front frame.  the front bumper looks like nothing happen but the front frame has been push in at a angle and so it causes the right headlight to be not in place. Money is not an issue but just wanted a more estimate to how much it would cost to repair the frame in the front... thanks for the time..

current industry standard is $975 per inch of straightening.

it has to be straightened, then sanded, primed and painted to protect from elements.

    DCP02047.sized.jpg

that was going to cost me $850 JUST to repair the front cor support, because it bent the "frame rails" in about 3/4". and thats only that price cause i knwo someone in the business.

Don't forget to remove your cell phone before getting the work done lol. j/k B) ;)

ahh yes, i was waiting on a call frm work.

and thats my house phone...1 of 4 (big house) B)

  10. I know next to nothing about the mechanics of my car....and I also have a ticking noise when I turn corners at slow speeds.

So what you are trying to say is that my inner CV joints need to be replaced?

more than likely. i wish i was closer (im in DFW) i woudl swing by and take a look-see.

clicking in the drivetrain can only be a handfulof things, if its not motor related (it would do it when engine rev's, even out of gear) then it is CV joints, a nail in tire or a bad wheel bearing. bearings do not normally click, but i have seen it before.

  11. I don't think they have them at Home Depot, but they do have them at Lowes. Then you'll want to get some pads which you'll probably have to buy online and he'll be all set.

As for the rotary you can use the products I'm going to send you with it for sure, but you need some new pads for it. You can get them at www.properautocare.com same pads you would have bought for the PC.

ok, i look forward to receiveing the "stuff"

what can i expect to pay for a P/C? around $150?

  12. Like I told you in PM I definately would be careful with that. Thats a rotary and not an orbital so its possible to introduce serious swirling and even burn through the paint.

As for pads I'm not sure if you can buy them locally or not. You can get good pads online at www.properautocare.com

As for the PC, all the PC polishers are the same, the difference lies in the counterweight and whatever they come with.

thansk for the tip. i have been using it for awhile. im very careful.

cool. the one that broke on my dad is OLD, probably as old as i am. i dnt htink he wants to fix it. just to by another one. where can i pick one up? Home deopt?

  13. I just know if I spent $1000 on brakes (well, it was at least $500 for the fronts I'm sure) and they squealed I'd be back there already.

you are probably right, i would too most likely. mine were 339.57...but they arent lex OEM. but i figured i would go back in a week if they didnt quiet down.

  14. I agree.  Lexus uses the best and the smoothest.  And then rams it to the customer.

My question is-When we buy replacement parts at the auto parts store, is it possible that the the parts, such as brake pads, are truly not oem compatible, and we are being foolish replacing parts for our old, used Lexus if we don't go to the bandit dealer's parts department?  I'm thinking, in the area of brakes, that this may be true.  Sad.....

my wagners dont sqeal, but they did for the first 500 miles or so.

ever car I have ever had the breaks replace don has squealed a little for a few hundred miles. i agree lexus is different from any other car maker. they dont skimp on anything. so maybe ther is something wrong, try the lube, it couldnt hurt. but if you take apart their brake job to lube them they arent going to fix it.

  15. Short time luker, first time poster.  Here's the deal, last week I was filling up my ES 300, new to me, while keeping the engine running.  To make matters worse, I drove it almost to empty.  WEll, needless to say, the CEL and TRAC Off lights came on.  After checking out the posts here, I unhooked the battery and hooked it back.  The lights were gone, but yesterday they came back.  My thinking is I triggered something while filling up with the motor running, or running it too close to empty.  Is there anything I can do, short of dropping a pretty sum to the dealership?

Two ther things, first, is there an enhanced waranty settlement for the 1999 es 300?

Also, I would ask if there is a good mechanic near Lake Livingston, in TX.  I have family who use JP IMPORTZ.

    Thanks in advance

    Grace & Peace.

JPI is the best place in texas to take your lexus. he does wonders with mine and many others.

    Welcome to the site.

the trac off light along with the CEl means the trans has entered "safe mode". take it to autozone and have the codes read.

if the codes are unrelated ot O2 sensors or catalytic cconverters (most likely they are) then the dealer should cover it. the only reason they wouldnt cover it if related to cats or 02's is becauce filling up while running CAN (not usually, but once in a while) damage these components.

generally it is not good practice to fill the car while it is running.

  16. Yeah the Gold Class has a lot of cleaners, so does the NXT though. So probably the NXT removed the Gold Class.

You might be able to use the WEN polisher, is it orbital?

    yes. one direction.

2 speeds. but i need a pad. can i buy them at wal-mart?

im getting my dad a new P/C withthe help of my mom's money (going half and half from both of us) what series do you reccomend?

also, the WEN needs a pad that slips over, like the bonnet style. are there any applicator pads in that style?

EDIT: heres pix of my WEN.

  17. I've never had a brake job done to a car that squealed and then miraculously stopped squealing, including on Lexuses...

every car i have had has at least for a few days. but i have always driven low end cars. i havent put brakes on the concorde yet.

not saying that it happens all the time, but its not unusual

  18. Hi KY350!! :)

Thanks!! I hope so too. If 'things' are NOT 'fixed' THIS time - then I don't know what I'll do. [because everything would have been tested or replaced - insofar as the fuel system is concerned] As for acting half my age - I'd love that. I'm 41 now - so acting 20.5 [!!] would be great. [and still legal!!] And considering the fact that I was 30 when I was born - it will be a whole new experience for me. :D

    Hi UCF3!! :)

The Torque Converter seems to be OK and there has been no mention of oil or pipe leaks. But who knows. I'm actually a bit nervous about all this. [a lot nervous - in fact] I hope they really DO  know what they're doing. Quite a few times now I've pick up my car only to discover that whatever they did had no positive effect on the car AT ALL. Keep  your fingers crossed for me - OK? [and that goes for the rest of you too!! lol]

    Hi ArmyofOne!! :)

Any updates? Well... I think so. [i hope so!!] They still have my car. [and I still have theirs!!] Did you know that putting miles on someone else's car is considerably easier to do than putting miles on your own car?! lol

The guy who I was dealing with - was home sick on Saturday. But I talked to the lady who was taking over for him. SHE said that they are going all the way on this. ["the whole nine yards"] Apparently [and I'll believe it when I see it - so to speak] they have removed the gas tank and sent if off to be cleaned. She said that they are going through the entire fuel system with a fine tooth comb - making sure everything is as it should be. [again - we'll see] I really hope this is it. It really bothers me to drive a 4.0 litre 250 h.p. ANYTHING that can't beat a 4 cylinder Automatic Ford Tempo.

As an aside - I can't help but think that the fuel pump was probably OK - but just really clogged up. That would seem to make more sense - considering how smoothly the engine revved, etc. Oh well.....

How much is all this going to cost?!

[suddenly - I'm not feeling very well!!] lol

    Thanks again.

    Craig!! :)

the entire fuel system? i have no idea how much that woudl cost. i would count on around $1,000. the gas tank cleaning cost alot.

ANYTHING that can't beat a 4 cylinder Automatic Ford Tempo.

i had a 5 speed ford contour w/ a 4 cylinder that (when stock) would kick the socks off of most stock LS's. ;) close enough? the LS is a fast car for its size, but its alot slower than most smaller cars. my contour weighed over 1500lbs less than your LS, but it was a 5 speed with about 75hp/Liter (2.0L, 140 HP.)

    ;)

  20. My es250 came with a a mod i thought was simple but cool which was, ls400 chrome wheels.

But then i added sylvania silverstars, and blue courtesy lights, and blue trunk bulb.

yeah, if you ever want to get rid fo those, PM me!!! lol. i can have the center caps re plated for about $10 per. (i know someone)

  21. ~One man’s opinion / observations

    Methodology:

 Thoroughly rinse wheels to remove any loose surface dirt or dust

 Clean surfaces with a diluted (APC) all-purpose citrus-based cleaner (P21S Total Auto Wash) Agitate with a soft boar’s hair wheel brush and rinse with low-pressure clean water

 If necessary use a polish to restore the lustre of polished metal and prevent re-oxidation (Iz Einszett® Metal Polish "Chrompflege) and remove residue with a clean, dry micro fibre towel

 Use a one-step product (Klasse All-In-One) to provide both cleaning and long-term polymer protection, this will also make future cleaning easier.

 Apply with a damp applicator; remove residue with a clean, dry micro fibre towel, and finally buff surface to a shine.

Maintenance- clean surfaces with a diluted (APC) all-purpose citrus-based cleaner (P21S Total Auto Wash)

after you get it off, apply Zoop seal. thsi stuff will make it so that yolu can take an air hose and use it to dust off brake dust, save nothing for dog *BLEEP*.

  22. No problem at all, like silver noticed I enjoy giving my opinion ;)

Yeah you'll want to use the PC. You should pick up some new pads for it like these: http://www.properautocare.com/hi612infopaa.html

You'll want two cutting pads and a polishing pad. You can do the final waxing by hand or with your little buffer.

You'll also want to look at Poorboys line of SSR polishes, you'll need SSR2.5 and maybe SSR3 depending on how bad your swirls are in reality. Your NXT applied at high speed with the PC and a polishing pad will work as a high grade polish to remove any marring. Work the 2.5 in according to the instructions posted here at the site. www.poorboysworld.com

You know what, I'll send you a little of my SSR polish if you want. I can send you enough to do your whole car probably and it would save you having to buy some. Shoot me a PM with your address if you want some ;)

you have a PM. thanks alot! the swilrs arent that bad in reality. thephoto exaggerates them quite a bit.

if i take a coat of NXT and then a coat of gold class, they all but dissappear for about a week. if i give 3 coats of NXT and 1 coat of gold class, they dissapear for a month or so.

    oh and uh...FYI, the buffer i have is a WEN 7" buffer/sander/polisher.

my dads P/C broke yesterday night, on the final buffing of the charger for the season...sucks too, i was just getting ready to hit my car with it. but if that stuff can be applied via anothe rbuffer, feel free to send it.
