  1. not spark plugs

the click is the starter solenoid making contact but not enough power to turn the starter

if it turns over after a few clicks then the solenoid needs to be removed and cleaned then change the starter wires and battery grounds

agreed. no need to buy a new starter. it's the solenoid contacts. $15 from toyota for a new kit. this link tells how to do it.

  2. There are no external oiling points on any of the pulleys - the bearings in them are sealed. Put the oil can away.

actually you can remove the tensioner pulley from the tensioner and clean it out and put a drop or two of oil along the edges of the seal. you can also get the bearing pressed out and a new one put in.

here's the backside of pulley/bearing. you can see that the bearing can be presseed out and replaced.

  3. I like the looks of the 18's on your car. Is it stock height ? Also what size tires are you running and what is the offset on your wheels. Thanks

thanks. the car has about a 1 inch drop on Tein CS coilovers.

    the wheels are oem 2006 GS430 (18x8 +45) wheels.

the tires are 245/40-18 Pireli Pzero Nero.

  4. Hi ChuckB,

Do you have a mk2 car? Is it not possible for you to manually adjust the level or does it have HID lights with an auto leveller like my mk3 (is it 2006) model? Thanks, Marcus.

I have 2nd gen with oem HID with auto level. there is a reference point the leveler can be set to. one sensor on front and one on rear. the rear is the only one they have to adjust I believe.

  5. Hi,

I am based in the UK but am posting here in the hope that someone will know if the new AFS headlight minimum level can be adjusted up by dealers?

My new car's headlights illuminate for a far shorter distance that the mark 1 or mark 2 GS300's that I had without the HID / AFS etc. This is because when you start the car, they adjust to a setting that is too low. I wonder how they determine what level to set at?

In fact, my new "automatic" GS430 illimination distance is very similiar to the mark 2 manual setting on the lowest level, which should be used when towing something heavy to stop dazzling other drivers.

I have looked for the answer on the UK forum to no avail. Any help appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Marcus.

yes, it can be adjusted. I had to have the dealer adjust mine after the car was lowered. huge difference.

  6. 1996 es300 doesn't have an EGR position sensor. Check hoe much vacuum you have at the EGR valve, engine hot @ 2500 rpms. More than likely the modulator is bad

modulator is what I meant to say. my 95 es has the same cel right now. I'm scared to buy a new egr and then it may be the modulator, as mentioned.

I don't have a vacum tester, any other way to check it.
