  1. skperformance, I didn't mean to ask stupid questions here. I did attempt to hear and trace it only that I could not find it. The beep seemed to come from behind the fuse board. Because I read one of the replies that said the beeper is like a block-fuse and I remember seeing some block modules under the dash. I couldn't see it very clearly under the dash because the fuse board was blocking my view and I didn't know how to remove it. Apologies if I had led people to think that I was not using the forum correctly.
  2. I jacked up the car and spinned the four wheels hard individually, here is the observation: front left: spinned 1 revolution only, intermittent friction sound was heard front left: same rear left: spinned 2 to 3 revolutions, intermittent friction sound was heard rear righ: same It seems that the brake pads are stopping the wheely from free spin. Can this be corrected and how? Thanks!
  3. The brake pads of my 97 ES300 appears to be always touching the braking discs. Is this how it should be or my brake pads are poorly placed? I would have thought there should be a small gap between the pad and the disc, and they touch only when the brake is applied. Driving and fuel economy is not affected, though. My concerns are: 1. If the brake pads always touche the brake discs, will this cause the pads to wear excessively? 2. The are too much brake dusts resulting from the friction between the pads and the discs if they are in contact all the time. Thanks!
  4. I'm trying to do a similar thing - disable the reverse beeper. jrzes, can you show me a pic of the "block-fuse like" beeper, with that I'll be more confident in finding the reverse beeper and remove it. Thanks!
  5. I want to take out the spark plugs for inspection, but could not figure out how to disconnect the cables of front 3 plugs of the V6 engine. Also, I have no idea how to take out the rear 3 plugs. Can anybody direct me to posts or sites that have detailed description and/or diagrams explaining how to do it? Thanks!
  6. My 97 ES300 has it. It does make a difference. Sport mode gives better handling, comfort mode give softer ride.
  7. Thanks for the explanation. I could not find the explanation in the FAQ, but found another post that showed very detailed explanation of all the trouble codes after I submitted the question. Thanks!
  8. I did a HAVC diagnostic on my 97 ES300 according to the instruction in the FAQ. The LCD showed code 21 and was blinking. What does the it mean? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for all your replies!. Really appreciated that.
  10. Hi, battery cable of my 97 ES300 look quite old. I am worrying about the quality of the contact and so want to change the battery cables? My car takes about 2 seconds to start when the enginee is cold. Does anybody know how to do it? A step-by-step guid will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  11. My 97 ES300 takes about 2 seconds to start the engine when the engine is coldl. When the engine is still warm (within 2 hours after switching off), it starts almost instantly. What could possibly be the problem? I was told that the battery might be low. Is there a conveniently and reliable way to test the battery? Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi Jim, No problem at all. I did not feel offended at all. It was a good and friendly discussion. I've own my car for less than 3 months and do have a lot to explore about. All information and comments about it are welcome. Eric :)
  13. Hi, thanks for the information. It's interesting to know that the Japanese call the Lexus (they use brandname Toyota and not Lexus in Japan) garage car. Actually, mine is a Toyota Windom (called Lexus ES300 outside of Japan). I'm not sure whether my car has side impact beam (how to check?). As for the headlight flash or horn sound at high speed, I've not see this on my car. The highest speed I drove my car was only 75mph, due to road speed limits and road conditions in HK. So, not sure if my car has the same problem.
  14. Yes, you're right. I'm from Hong Kong. However, my ES is a direct import from Japan. Will the Japan version the same as that in North America? Thanks again.
  15. Can anybody please tell me where to find the color code of the cladding of 97 ES300? I could only find the color code of the main color in engine chamber. It is 199.
  16. Thanks guys for the responses! I'll check the backup bulbs. The beep seems to come from the front and inside of the car, though.
  17. This forum is so great! I've learnt so much from here. Whenever I put the shift stick of my 97 ES300 to the Reverse ("R") position, an intermittent and rather loud "beep" sound is heard. I found this beep beep sound annoying. How can I stop this sound?
