My neighbor is upgrading to a new Lexus and has offered me his '91 LS400 for 5K.

197K mi, Loaded, Timing chain replaced 17k ago, A/C compressor replaced, PS pump replaced, rear bushings replaced, rotors/pads replaced.

Maintained per manufacturer's schedule. Climate control LCD is black (looks like about a $150 job via ebay). Some paint chipping on rear bumper, but extremely clean & ding free otherwise.

Seems like a great deal, what do you all think?

Test drive it. Drive it on the Highway at speeds of 60-70mph and see if there is any vibration. Then go up to 90mph and see who smooth the ride is.

Go over bumps or rough roads with the windows down, and see if you hear any clucking noise when you go over the bumps.

LCD black out is Ok. There is pinned topic in this forum:

And tell us what the book value is for Private party and retail too. Since, we don't know the correct options and condition of the car.

don't be afraid of the miles, if the car was well maintained, like you stated above with all the nessecary repairs already being made...the thing will run another 200k with proper maintenece,,,and ride better than some new cars

5k seems reasonable, i would probably offer him 4k and go from there.

good luck

I agree with Silvermate about going with 4k first.

*The things you mentioned that have been reparied are costly.

btw: What color is it, in&out?

Thanks for the replies and the great information. I just stumbled across lexusownersclub.com today and man, am I impressed!

Regarding the LS400:

He's firm @ 5K. He said he's done 5K in repairs over the last two years and wants to recoup that.

The vehicle is pearl white/grey w/ grey interior.

You're welcome.

I took a survey on whats your favorite color for a Lexus. Most of the results came out to be Pearl White.

I don't think he will mind. But, ask if he still has the receipts and where did he got the work done.
