Map Won't Load In Extreme Cold Weather

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

When I start my 2009 LS460 and it's extremely cold out, my Map doesn't load and the screen says "Unable to Load Maps, Contact your Lexus Dealer." If I drive the car 10 minutes or so, and restart the car, the map loads as it should normally. So, once the interior get's warm enough, the map will load but if the interior isn't warm, the map won't. Does anyone else experience this problem?

I would call the dealership to find out if there is a software update for your VIN.
Then again, the ambient temperature may be below what the electronics are capable of withstanding. How cold was it when this happened?

Typically when this happens, either it is freezing or below or the car hasn't been operated in a few days. Once I drive, say 10 minutes or so, and then shut the vehicle off and restart, the map loads as expected. I also forgot to mention, when the map doesn't load, neither does my cell phone address book. Apparently the phone and the maps share the same thought process.  LOL.

I got this car in March, 2021 so it wasn't that cold outside. However, I had an 02 LS430 before this (was totaled in an accident) and I never experienced that problem at all. Oddly enough, I'm not even sure where the DVD is located in this vehicle. We also currently have a 10 ES350 and don't have this issue with the maps.

I have seen some incidences in which the DVD unit's "lens" was not able to read the disc. Some owners have removed and cleaned the assembly but with no luck. They then replaced the unit with a new or used one to solve the problem. Hopefully someone on this forum has had a similar issue and will reply. Ours is still working perfectly but outside temps rarely dip below 38 degrees F. Our garage stays above 55 or so.
