98 GS 400 Windshield replacement

Hi all,

New to the club and have one burning question: does anyone know of an aftermarket windshield available for the GS400? We are located in British Columbia, Canada and brought the car in from the province of Alberta. Well, the car had to go through a safety inspection before becoming eligible to register and insure here in B.C. The car passed almost everything with flying colours with the exception of the front windshield which has two cracks, about 6inches each on each side of the window. The car will not pass with this and glass shops have said that they cannot "mend" the cracks if they are longer than 2 inches. Problem is, at time of writing there seem to be no new windshields available through Lexus in ALL of North America!!

The glass shop had one shipped which broke in transit... they say they are on back order from Japan. I spoke to Lexus Seattle, and they said they show 0 in stock anywhere in USA and none on order.... The good news he said, was that they didn't show as discontinued...

Also, on checking with local auto wreckers there is only one available which is in the province of Ontario, many thousand of miles away.

Any suggestions on repair, alternate sourcing, how to carve your own windshield out of crystal, etc. would be much appreciated!
