96owner4000
recently my transmission wont go into gear when i select any of the drive gears in the gear select, it goes into reverse, neutral and park just fine but it barely moves when i put it into drive, anyone else have a similar issue or know a solution, im assuming its a drive solenoid issue or something of that sort but i may be way off, please help :)
Bykfixer
Do you have a check engine light lit?
96owner4000
its throwing p0758 p0773 and p1765
Bykfixer
0758 is a 1st to second solenoid 0773 is the TCM turning off the shift solenoid valve 1765 is the clutch solenoid. Sometimes in cars that old tranny solenoids just start failing. Apparently in Toyota made vehicles it's pretty common after a couple of decades. It could be bad connections to the Engine Control Module causing the tranny to go into self preserve mode. Have you had the fluid and filter changed? Does it have the correct amount of tranny fluid? 96owner4000
not recently had it changed no, but it should have to proper amount or close to it and the last time it had trans work done was about 120k ago
Bykfixer
120k as in 120,000? As in miles? Have you perhaps checked to make sure the proper fluid level is actually present?
96owner4000
i probably should i dont know why i didnt think of it, but would that completely prevent it from going into the drive gears?
Bykfixer
It's probably solenoids gone bad but at least check the fluid level.
96owner4000
oh ok yeah it still has the proper amount of fluid, thank you 🙂
dcfish
Is the fluid Blood Red ? Brown ? Thanks
Bykfixer
brown is bad, red is good, dark brown is real bad but again the solenoids on Toyota made cars do quit working after a couple of decades.
96owner4000
its between red and brown closer to the red side
Bykfixer
Not bad. Sounds about normal for a car that age.
dcfish
I highly doubt 3 solenoids go at the same time ???? Something is dirty/stuck...Either way the pan needs to come off first...Then inspection...And so forth...
dcfish
I remember back in the day ...There was talk about transmissions building up debris and if one would Flush the tranny there was a chance this debris would get forced loose and get stuck elsewhere in the tranny causing issues, So We always did the drop and fill of about 2 quarts or so the same time as the oil change. T4 fluid is inexpensive and this is a way to keep your tranny like new forever...;)
96owner4000
hey, so i got new solenoids, full trans flush, and a new filter, and still nothing new. i also tried unplugging the transmission cable and shifting manually and nothing new happened, and possible suggestions? ajahearn
I recently got P0773 and P1765. The fluid level is good but the fluid is brown. Car has about 160k miles on it. Is it worth having the fluid changed? It was flushed 2.5 years ago but no filter change. Car makes it a little difficult to get out of parking but otherwise appears to shift normally. Thanks in advance.
