robisconfusedd Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 this might sound weird n all, but i have a 94 ls400 and i really DONT like automatic transmissions, its just a pet peeve thing of mine i guess, so i was kinda curious what transmission that is manual is compatible and fits best in the 1st gen ls400s?? and mayb where could i get this done? lol thanks!
jzz30 Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 maybe you could use one from a tundra otherwise you could use a getrag 6speed and have the bell housing converted
1UZ-FE Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 im kinda interested in a conversion too. i DO NOT plan on doing it any time soon knowing as how i have no money saved up and dont think i will any time soon. Does anyone have any idea what kind of price tag something like this would carry(parts and labor)? even a ballpark estimate would do.
SRK Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 Parts, rebuilding, custom machining, labour, if you don't do it yourself, maybe $5-7k - if you do most of the work yourself, 60% of that. It won't be easy, worthwhile, or rewarding, in my opinion.
VMF Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 i agree with SRK, its really not worth it, LS is not the type of car u have on stick. GS or IS would fit this purpose much better
UCF3 Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Also, the LS never came with a 5 or 6Speed version anywhere, not even in Japan. Getrag hasn't made one either--I checked. The only one that is close to comparison is GS300, but a custom driveshaft, electronics, and what SRK and VMF mentioned will definitely be needed. I was quoted $8200 for Parts and Labour from a friend. So day I'll attempt it, when money permits it.
