Alex.VVV Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 At about 2am at night my car starting randomly ticking. It wasn't running or anything. After I unlocked it to try and start it, it started making the same ticking noise and wouldn't start. When I turned off the ignition the noise started again. It was coming from around the bottom of the firewall, between the engine and transmission. I touched the battery and it was awefully warm so I took off the positive terminal and it stopped. I would guess it's the starter but I don't know why it would do that so randomly. Edit: it did the same thing about 15 minutes ago, but this time the lights were flashing and siren went off. Can it be the antitheft? Here's how it sounds. With ignition and keys out. IMG_5488.3gp
ERob350 Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Mine did the same thing last night - except it was a thunking noise. Not sure what is going on. Replaced the battery. It currently is not doing it.
RX400h Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Quote Antitheft System: The fact that the lights were flashing and the siren went off suggests that the antitheft system might be engaged. This system can prevent the car from starting if it doesn't recognize the key correctly. Here are some steps you can take: Inspect Electrical Connections: Check the battery connections and ensure they are clean and secure. Reset Antitheft System: Try resetting the antitheft system by locking and unlocking the doors with the key, or consult your owner's manual for specific instructions. Consult a Mechanic: Given the complexity of these issues, it might be best to have a professional mechanic inspect the car, especially since the closest dealership is far away.
