codycollie Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 One for the archives. Purchased certified 08 in 4/13 with 29k miles. Just turned 74.3k miles and transmission failed. Reached out to Lexus customer service for help. Informed me that 3 year warranty had passed (like I couldn't do the math) but I pressed the issue of 25k miles less than the 100k power train warranty. DENIED. Didn't service my vehicle with Lexus so they felt no ownership of the problem!!! The last purchase for me!!!!!!
zieke Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 It is my opinion that lexus may have considered some help had you provided documentation of a transmission fluid change at around 50k or so miles. Of course the trans. may have been abused contributing to the failure.
codycollie Posted September 7, 2017 Author Posted September 7, 2017 zieke Wish I had gotten to discuss that subject with the case manager. Despite having done all the proper maintenance as required I did not do it with the "qualified Technicians" of Lexus but through my own very capable garage so her position was they had no ownership. As far as abuse there were only two owners - the first for 29K miles and the last 45 an old retired couple - me! Never a hint of problems and when my garage looked for transmission failures across the internet for a RX - they are few and far between. They don't fail - OFTEN! I also was looking for Lexus to help with the problem and in my discussions indicated that I had planned to purchase a newer model later this year and would they consider mine in a trade. The case manager said customer service doesn't get involved in sales! So for the sake of $3-4K of cost sharing they gave up a $30-40K sale. Great business model
lenore Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 I am curious, did your mechanic use Type WS Toyota transmission fluid.? I would make another call, and give them supporting documentation of your service record for the transmission.
