13IS250C Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I saw one yesterday and they had the sunroof open. Instead of sliding between the roof of the car and the headliner, the whole sunroof just sits on top of the roof. Yuck!!!! Looked like a Cavalier or comparable with it sitting up there like that. Shame on you Lexus!
LEX-SV Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 This is common today, and something I don't view as a problem if it's done well. For example the pano roofs on Mercedes CLA and C-classes are like this today (including my 2015 C300 loaner car), on these 2 Benz's it's done well. It allows a bigger glass roof with zero impact on rear seat headroom. What they are trying to avoid is puny little sunroofs like Porsche 911's had (for example) for many years.
LEX-SV Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 RC open? No. My guess is on a white car it will stand out in a less attractive way. I've seen several new Benz's and new Porsches open which are similar. Pano roofs will look best because the dark glass lays on top of the dark glass and black roof, less contrast.
LEX-SV Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 To me it's less of a problem, since for this car I would choose a dark metallic exterior color and the dark glass would not contrast open or shut. I do 100% require a sunroof/moonroof on my sport coupes and sport sedans. That's a big reason why I've avoided ownership of Mustang GT fastbacks and Porsche Caymens, both cars I like very much.
13IS250C Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 My car doesn't have a sunroof. Teeheehee!!!! You know where I really miss a sunroof? I used to always look up to make sure that my garage door had gone all the way up before I would back out. Now I have to glance out my window. I'm anal like that.
LEX-SV Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 ^ Your car has the super-sized metal sunroof. I've owned only 5 convertibles, all were rag tops, none had the slick folding metal roof.
13IS250C Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 My only other one was my S2000. As much as I loved it, I'll never own a rag top again. I like having more than a piece of fabric over my head. Also, they get so faded and yucky after a while. I treated my S2000 with a product called Ragg Topp. It was a lot of trouble, but made the top repel water like wax does to paint.
pj8708 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I love it when we have these complicated back and forth posturings. Especially when the subject could have catastrophic consequences to the hope of world peace. LOL-LOL I'm not sure if my memory is correct, but back during our Flower Child days, I think VW had a fabric sun room that cranked open, and the fabric top would fold back Accordion style. Is that correct or is it the vapor lock in my brain?!! Paul 1
LEX-SV Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I remember the old American and German cars that had metal sunroofs with a folding crank to manually open/close. Now we push a button.
13IS250C Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 I still say that T-Tops were the best ever. When out....almost a convertible, when in....a glass roof. Perfect. I could get mine in and out in about 20 seconds. I did it in a left hand turn lane once in my younger more show-off days.
VBdenny Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I had my sunroof tinted with limo tint when I bought the car. I don't like even the light coming in on me which meant I always keep the cover slider closed. Now I can leave it open however I have never opened my sunroof. They are something I could easily do without on a car. After the Miata, I don't care much about open.
13IS250C Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Oh I love open.....except when bees come around. Eek! It will be 77 here today. Top WILL be down.
LEX-SV Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Once I accidently drove at slow speed under a tree with a bee hive with my moonroof open, fortunately I passed unharmed before I could even reach for the close button. Definitely got my attention...
13IS250C Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 You know what I do when bees buzz my car? (Don't laugh). I blast my radio in hopes that the noise will scare them away. If you heard some of the music I listen to you would understand.
