ringtaill Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Anyone know of a web site where I can buy a rebuild for an alternator? I'm planning to rebuild the power steering pump and want to do he alternator at the same time.
SRK Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 You're looking for a rebuild kit, or a rebuilt alternator? If you need a kit, any good automotive electrical shop that rebuilds alternators and starters will probably sell you the brushes and bearings. The one in my town has supplied me with all kinds of parts over the years, but sometimes I let them do the work as their testing procedure is more than I can do in my shop. The Denso parts are not that expensive so you should save a bunch if you do it yourself.
lenore Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I have ordered bearings and brushes from Sewell Lexus and rebuilt the alternator on a RX300....Easy task.
billydpowell Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 if you cant find a shop like SRK said, just order from sewell. I have always bought them from a shop I used when I was in business and let them test it for me when I finished

Yamae Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 When the power steering oil is leaking onto the alternator for months, those slip rings are mostly damaged. You need to replace them but this is not easy to do. You often need to replace the whole shaft assembly.
