chrisgsemail Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 96 ls400 with 250,000 miles.Tune up 3 months ago, motor and trans mount replaced 2 weeks ago. So I took off my throttle body and cleaned large amount of the black sludge from TB and inside the intake plenum. I also removed PS pump and alt to repair pump leak and clean up mess. Some coolant leaked out when hose was removed. Store is 12 miles away so I just added water as a temparary solution. Started car- CEL came on and thru 5 codes -P0308 -P1509 -P0113 -P0118 -P1298 I checked for vacuum leaks before the "cleaning" the car drove beautifully with no CEL. I put 10 miles on it since. Ive read a buch of post and would like some suggestions on where to start. Im hesitant about doing the "Italion tune up". I'm getting the ecm coolant temp sensor and will flush the coolant today. All feed back is appriecaited.
Micah.Berry Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Possibly pull the battery terminal, allow it to sit for a few minutes so the computer resets, and then see if you get another code once you return the battery wire to its terminal. Kind of a goofy suggestion, I know. Some of those codes could possibly be linked to mass airflow sensor?

chrisgsemail Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Yes I tried that. re-seated all connectors double checked for vacuum leaks.Im going to pick up the ecm coolant temp switch and flush the radiator and try some fuel injector cleaner. Ill post back tonight with update and hopefully progress.
landar Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I would guess that you disturbed something when taking the air intake apart. It is very easy to crack the air intake duct work because they are old and brittle. Then there is the possibility that the connector to the MAF is not seated. P0308 is a cylinder 8 misfire. I know that you have tried everything. But recheck connectors again and the duct work for cracks. Reset all codes and see what shows up.

All feed back is appriecaited. Did you use a new gasket when you replaced throttle body? Did you clean the IACV as well? P1509 might be IACV related (it is for BMW, GM, and Ford). P0118 is coolant temp sensor and may just mean an open circuit. Given all this occurred at once whch that connections are clean and tight. No card cleaner as leached into any sensors, and you have a seal on all vacuum points, TB gasket, intake air duct and so on.
