mleahy Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I'm always suspicious of my mechanic about oil changes. I know this is a dumb question but do you guys think it's not a big deal to go over by a couple thousand miles? I heard lexus and toyota engines are more likely to build up sludge in the engine.
Steve Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Hi I did this once until i noticed the engine was really tappy on start up. So i had a service done and it was fine ever since. The oil loses it's velocity so I would stick to the recommendations.
Vin Shar Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I would not compromise for Oil Change after every 5K or time recommanded. If cost is hurting. not a bad idea to go Toyota Dealership. But service, environment and welcoming will be of Toyota status not Lexus.
reyoasian Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Not sure about other models but the IS250 tends to have carbon buildup more than others so more frequent oil change is recommended, as well synthetic is recommended because will run cleaner My theory is that changing your oil with a inferior oil more frequently is more beneficial than using a superior oil less frequently because your car is exposed to CLEAN oil more often than DIRTY oil Even best oil will get dirty and running any dirty oil is not good for the engine........But if you can do both then why not :) As well even if you don't drive much, oil still degrade overtime due to the dirty stuff in it so I wouldn't go over 6 months on same oil even if you've driven less than 5000Mil or 8000Km Some people run 10000 KM for Synthetic which is about 6300 Miles....but I still following 8K on synthetic due to my theory Some oils claim can last up to 20,000 or whatnot, but that is only an estimate as well keyword is "up to" There are many other factors that determine the oil life such as driving style, long cruises vs. short trips, local vs. hwy, climate and humidity, environment and pollution etc. EDIT: This is a good video educating people on why you NEED to change your oil at recommended intervals :)
