Check Engine Flashing Light - Slowwww

Hey all,

Brand new to the site but I own a 2000 Lexus RX300, and it's been in my family ever since we got it in 2003 with 35,000 miles on it.

It's currently at 137,000 miles.

As I was driving home today, I felt a complete loss of power whenever I started to hit the gas.

My check engine light has been on for about 2 years now, and Everytime we take it in, they say that everything is fine, do not worry about the light.

Whenever I started to feel the loss of power ( would be at 4,500 rpm's and car would struggling to get to 5 mph), the check engine light would start flashing. After about 20 seconds, my car would then floor itself and unless I kept my foot at the same spot on the gas, the car would jolt back into a loss of power feeling, and stay there for another 10-20 seconds before you started to gain back speed.

Anybody have a clue to what this could be? How much it may cost to fix? I'm graduating college this year and was hoping to have this car last me until December 2013, before I would have to go buy a new car since money is rather tight right now. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Why is the check engine light (CEL) flashing? There has to be stored problem codes that could be read with a code reader. Many issues can cause a CEL and many of them are cheap to fix.

Who are the bozos that say everything is fine? Everything is NOT fine. Your car is a danger to yourself and others.

Again ... what are the stored codes? What did the guys who said "everything is fine" say the problem is. Didn't they check for stored codes - a CEL should trigger one or more codes.
