thomfarr Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 97 LX 450 w/ 70K miles. Had it 6 months. Last 2 months I noticed a screeching sound on startup. Lasts less than a second. Sounds like a belt or bearing. In the last week, noticed same sound every time AC compresser cycles on. Occasionally the noise does not stop until I turn off AC then turn on again. AC works great. Any ideas? I had planned to have mechanic replace all belts/hoses, but at $1,000 I am trying to wait as long as possible.
SKperformance Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 it is one of 2 things ,either the comprosser is having troube compressing the refrigerant and it has a blockage in the system or the compressor is binding or the belt is loose either from age or needs adjustment.
