thomfarr Posted March 5, 2004 Share Posted March 5, 2004 97 LX 450 w/ 70K miles. Had it 6 months. Last 2 months I noticed a screeching sound on startup. Lasts less than a second. Sounds like a belt or bearing. In the last week, noticed same sound every time AC compresser cycles on. Occasionally the noise does not stop until I turn off AC then turn on again. AC works great. Any ideas? I had planned to have mechanic replace all belts/hoses, but at $1,000 I am trying to wait as long as possible. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SKperformance Posted March 5, 2004 Share Posted March 5, 2004 it is one of 2 things ,either the comprosser is having troube compressing the refrigerant and it has a blockage in the system or the compressor is binding or the belt is loose either from age or needs adjustment.
