  1. 97 LX 450 w/ 70K miles. Had it 6 months. Last 2 months I noticed a screeching sound on startup. Lasts less than a second. Sounds like a belt or bearing. In the last week, noticed same sound every time AC compresser cycles on. Occasionally the noise does not stop until I turn off AC then turn on again. AC works great. Any ideas? I had planned to have mechanic replace all belts/hoses, but at $1,000 I am trying to wait as long as possible.
  2. Time for new tires on my 1997 LX450. What should I expect to pay for 4 OEM Michelin tires - mounted & front end alignment. First quote I got was $875.00 I have had the LX for 2 months so I don't know how it handles new. With 65K miles, should I be looking for new shocks as well? I've seen the discussion of OEM shocks vs. LC shocks vs. others.
  3. No "Diff Lock" button on dash. When I shift transfer gear to "L", the dash "Diff Lock" indicator comes on. When I shift back to "H" it remains lit until I shift transmission in to drive, then to N, then back to D. I guess this is normal, glad I figured it out since my owners manual makes no reference.
  4. I went from 2002 Tundra V8 to a 1997 LX450. The difference in available power was surprising, but the LX was never built for speed. There is a TRD turbo kit available for LX/LC that (reportedly) boosts hp from 220 to over 300, but it would take your gas mileage from bad to worse.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I had time to trace the wires - used to have lights on the brush guard. I'm still puzzled about the locking differentials. I thought the LX450 had them.
  6. Just bought '97 LX450 with no owner's manual. Ordered replacement, but still no mention of an "on/off" toggle switch located far left dash. It is left of the pwr mirror control. No other label on dash. Also, I do not have the rotary locking diff selector shown in manual. Could the toggle be related to the differentials? Help, please.
