argentum Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Hello, it is getting time to change my RX 400h timing belt. Now it is the most difficult part to choose the good brand to make sure it will be durable. I have found on ebay several sets, but it is difficult to choose without knowing which brand is good and which one is not. Here are few choises: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lexus-RX400H-3-3-06-08-Timing-Belt-Kit-Water-Pump-/170654326188?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ALexus|Model%3ARX400h&hash=item27bbca5dac http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AISIN-TKT-026-Timing-Belt-Kit-/230674086549?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ALexus|Model%3ARX400h&hash=item35b53f3a95 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-02-03-04-05-09-Toyota-Highlander-V6-Timing-Belt-Kit-/330609107552?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ALexus|Model%3ARX400h&hash=item4cf9d6a260 I found some more option: Beck Arley - 103 USD Dayco - 167 USD Gates - 200 USD If Beck Arley is OK, why should it pay almost double for Gates ....
lenore Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 The second kit (Aisin) would be my choice...YOu basically want the Aisin waterpump, Koyo bearings, and Mitsoboshi timing belt...they are all original equipment manufactorers. I just did this on my RX400H...Made a crankshaft pully removeal tool and went to town...the hardest thing was holding the rear cam in position when tensioning...Save yourself a lot of headache and make sure to removed the windshield wiper cowl assembly...it gives you the necessary room to work on the engine....There is a lEXUS rx300 U TUBE VIDEO ON THE PROCEDURE WHICH IS basically the same as our cars, except we dont have to remove air/conditioning pump, power steering etc... Please note the Aisin, koyo, and Mitsoboshi are the brands of choice... I know it is more, but you dont want to do this twice....here is a thread from Club Lexus that shows the tool that I made... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-second-generation/579348-timing-belt-change-nightmare.html

I just want to buy good timing belt kit and not overpay for it. What you think about Dayco? Is it good a good brand? http://www.drivewire.com/search/?PN=9319&VN=4294967115+4294961922+4294961874+4294967132+4294966786&N=0&Nr=AND%28universal:0%29
lenore Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I do not know about the DACO belt...I just know that the OE belts last forever, Dont short change the quality of the belt...If anything get a kit without the tensioner...The tensioner should be just fine...that may reduce the cost... here is a perfect kit...and all of the oe parts... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AISIN-Water-Pump-Timing-Belt-Kit-Lexus-RX400h-Hybrid-06-08-/300572428458?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ALexus%7CModel%3ARX400h&hash=item45fb8348aa

I contacted local dealer and he told me that in Europe water pump is not changed with timing belt unless there are any problems with it.
lenore Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 That is up to you, and your mechanic...are you doing the job? if so you have saved yourself so much money that I would do the waterppump as it is driven by the timing belt...However they are very solid, and when the belt is changed there is no indication of weeping from the pump then you could just change the belt...Just remember to inspect it carefully....I just did all of this on my RX and figured I saved around $850 in labor....
