My VSC Light and check engine light came on after traveling 20 miles from where I put gas in the car. Nothing seemed to be wrong with the car. The lights just popped on. Any ideas?

This question has been asked what seems like hundreds of times. The VSC and check engine lights can be caused by many issues that are completely unrelated to VSC -- the best way I can describe it is like your PC is going into "safe mode".

Although I have never heard it happening on a 98-00 LS400, on later Lexus cars these warnings can occur when the gas cap is loose or the gas cap gasket is defective.

My suggestion is to see if there any stored error codes. Your Lexus dealer or an indie repair shop should be able to see if there are any stored codes.

Mine came on when my wife scraped the curb (it had nothing to do with it) in our 99 LS.

autozone said codes 1345 & 1354, I checked gas cap, replaced (swapped) the battery out of my 97LS (it is brand new) cleaned all the cables, but it still came on. Went to Davenports they said 1349... failed oil control valve, $360. SO, I took it out, it was (grotty) I cleaned it out and it seemed to be working ok. Put it back in and it is running fine and so far it has not come back on (one day)
