Pads And Brakes

My 97 ES300 has around 96K and needed new rotors and pads.

Any suggestion of what equipment I should go with?

I have received a number of quotes starting from 350 -1100.

Is it just better to go back to the Lexus dealer - or Toyota dealer/

My vote is Toyota dealer if you do not have trusted independent mechanic. Will be cheaper than Lexus and Toyota mechanic should know the car well - it is the same as Camry.

Do it yourself. Real easy. Back has one bolt holding the caliper and two screws holding the brake housing. Front has two screws holding the caliper and two screws holding the brake housing. New rotors do not have to be turned, just put them on. also put on new brakes. If you have trouble getting the rotors off, use the little screw that holds the brake line to the strut to loosen the rotor. The rotor has two small holes in it. The screw is 10mm. Put it in each hole alternately until the rotors pops loose, it may startle you because it can be loud. Take off the old rotor and put on the new rotor. Put the brake housing back on and install the new brake pads. Easy as pie.

One important point to remember if you do it yourself. NEVER let the caliper hang from the brake line. If you are changing the rotors, make sure that you use a piece of rope, or wire, and support the weight of the caliper. A go place to tie it to would be the strut spring. The brake lines are not made to support any weight.
