Import_Boy Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Ok I was readin the cleaning wheels thread. And noticed mcnally say not to use your brakes much. so I've been thinkin about this for a long time, does downshifting hurt your car or gears? Cuz I could imagine goin changing gears at mid-range rpm and the lower gears have to clasp on quickly. So yeah, I'm a noob. Please don't flame
Lexus_Rex Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 down shifting at high revs is baaad. Mid revs is questionable.
Import_Boy Posted February 28, 2003 Author Posted February 28, 2003 cuz that'll be that only other way to slow down besides brake and e-brake right? Everybody says they do it, so I'm guessin it's not THAT bad
Matthew_McNally Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Ok I was readin the cleaning wheels thread. And noticed mcnally say not to use your brakes much. OK - sorry. I have amended the post - now has a smiley after that bit. Braking = good. Please do not refrain from using your brakes, I really don't want to be sending flowers to your funeral.
Import_Boy Posted March 1, 2003 Author Posted March 1, 2003 I know braking is good lol :P I just thought you meant downshifting to slow done
Steve Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 I dont see a problem using your gears to slow down... and I dont think your car would really let you change down at too much revs.. otherwise we could all put the car into 1st whilst doing 70. I have an auto and i always use second to help slow me down. But i dont do it doing 70 but more like 40 downwards. When i am in a manual i really use the gears alot to slow down.. and I don't hang around. Have'nt blown a gearbox yet
