amcdonal86 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Hi guys, I am experiencing intermittent problems with my front cigarette lighter. Every now and then, I cannot get any accessories plugged into the front cigarette lighter to work. I also cannot get the cigarette lighter to heat up (I don't smoke, but it still doesn't work!). This is about half of the time. I suspect a bad ground. Does anyone know where the grounding wire is? THANKS!
pawan Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I have similar problem. I get into real trouble when my GPS is running out of battery and the lighter doesn't work, though the cord always charges in other cars. Any way to troubleshoot it?
amcdonal86 Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 That's what I want to know. Luckily I have the outlet in the glove box to serve as a backup.
CUMan Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 You need to remove the ash tray-lighter assembly and check out the wiring in the rear. Use a multi-meter to make certain you are getting power and have a good ground leading to the lighter assembly. The assembly is fairly easy to remove. The wood panel around the transmission shifter has to be removed. It is held in place by clamps. Insert a small putty knife on each side and lift up. After this panel is removed, the ash tray-lighter assembly can be pulled out by reaching your fingers underneath it.
