palermo22 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I know there has been much discussion on the navigation system - I am just looking for clarity on the subject. 1) I read that some people claim they have been reimbursed by Lexus because they were informed that the navigation system had an override where you could manually enter the destination while driving - and of course there is no override - and the direction via speech is just horrible! Just wondering if there is any truth to these claims or whether Lexus is admitting anything to the contrary? 2) My navigation system (OEM) does not know many of the roads in my area (I live on the California Central Coast) and I am constantly getting "turn-by-turn guidance in this area cannot be provided". I have heard the newest update out is 8.1 - I am assuming that the maps in 8.1 are more up-to-date than what I have in my 2007 IS. 3) Last question: assuming one cannot obtain any type of settlement through Lexus because the navigation system turned out to be not what we all expected - and assuming that my only choice is getting the 8.1 update so it would have a more complete map area of where I live - would the 8.1 system have an override built into it so that one could enter the destination while driving? Thanks
SW03ES Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 You're not going to get a settlement. The navigation system has operated that way since Lexus started selling navigation systems in 1998, and plenty of other car manufacturers (most) have navigation that has blocked-out destination input when driving. Its a situation of "caveat emptor", when purchasing a $40,000 vehicle if the technology of the navigation system is of importance to you, a thorough test drive and use of the system would have provided you with plenty of information. As for the update, version 9.0 will come out in September or October, I would wait for that. 8.1 is an upgrade from your car (which has 6.1, the system is always a year behind the year of the car).
