Sexus ES300
98 es300 Over the past few weeks the air bag light has been flashing sometimes when i drive. I looked in the manual and it said something about sensors needing to be replaced. Has anyone had this problem before? cost? diy? homemechanic
the flashing sequence is equivalent of giving you an error code. for example, Code 43 flash-flash-flash-flash (long pause) flash-flash-flash. a very short pause in between each flash and a long pause between each digit. you can probably find out what the error code is telling you online or here on this site. btw, why u think it's the sensor? Sexus ES300
It said somewhere in the manual that it could be a sensor or something il look later to clarify
George_Jetson
Run the diagnostic as described in this doc.
homemechanic
i think you really need to read that blinking code to solve the problem. be worry free, airbags don't go off when you get that light stay on. however, your airbags would NOT deploy in an accident. if u believe it's the sensors behind the bumper, then you have to locate the short or determine if the sensor is bad. if it's the fail safe sensor inside the airbag computer, the entire computer must be replaced. that blinking code will give tell you which sensor or malfunction issue of the airbag. Sexus ES300
So how do i run the diagnostics? All i got out of that picture was a wiring diagram
George_Jetson
Under circuit description, the last sentence tells which terminals need to be shorted together to place it in diagnostic mode. The light should start flashing the codes.
