Backing Plate On Ls 400 Side Mirror

Hey Guys, I have a problem getting a mirror glass for my 1997 LS 400 which was stolen, but I still have the housing. The dealer is asking $400.00 just for the glass (with the backing plate), and I can't seem to get one to buy anywhere for a reasonable price. I was thinking, does anyone know if the backing plate on any 1 st generation model can fit on the 97 LS?

The reason is that I'm thinking of buying a 1st Gen mirror, removing the backing plate, put that in my housing and then buying a piece of plain mirror glass which I will glue to the 1 st gen backing plate.

I know this sounds a bit confusing, but the question is, will, say a 1994 LS mirror glass backing plate fit the housing of a 1997 LS? I don't care that it is not the same shape, just want to know if it will fit. Thanks.

The mirror glass for the 94 and 97 appear to have the same part number.

Even the $275-$300 I see from one of the on-line Lexus parts sellers seems expensive.

Yes a junkyard find for that in particular would be quite a lucky find.
