dario Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I plan on doing an oil change myself and I plan on switching to sythetic for the first time. The car is 2002 Lexus ES with 29K miles. Is it safe to switch on sythetic with that age and miles???? Also I live in Chicago and plan on going with MOBIL EP full sythetic 5W-30. Is 5W-30 good for this type of car????? I will go with OEM oil filter please respond thank you.
gbhrps Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Dario, The engine was made to run on ordinary Dino Oil, 5w30. Toyota's engines, if treated well, are capable of 500 000 miles with proper maintenance. Unless you are going to keep this car until you have that kind of mileage on it, or you are going to race the daylights out of it at every opportunity, why waste your money? You bought it with 29 000 mi. on it, and you'll most likely trade it long before it hits 300 000 mi., or the body will have rotted off it by then. The engine will just be nicely broken in at that stage. Save your money for the things you really need to spend it on. New wiper blades each year, brake and coolant flushes and refills every four years, spark plugs every 60 000 mi., etc. Its your car, and its your money. You can spend it any way you want, but it doesn't make any sense in my opinion.
camlex Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Good advise. Spark plug with Timing belt @90,000. Synthetic Blend 5W30 (Castrol) for every 5000 miles, and i have 347,500 on my 97 ES300. Hope that helps.
