Won't Start!

First post. i have a 98 GS, 66,000 miles. detailed it Sunday afternoon. pulled it into the garage sunday night. Monday am it will not start. tunrs over but nothing. I'm obviously not a mechanic but don't want to pay big bucks either to the dealer to come get it when it could be something simple.

any clues?

i too have a 98 gs, and i had the same problem after i installed an aftermarket cd changer. could simply be the battery. check that first.

It's fixed! Apparently it was excessively flooded. I let it sit for a day and it started right up with an incredible amount of white colored exhaust.

that's odd, usually a white exhaust smoke means it is burning coolant.

especially since the cat is still cold and not working.

Black smoke is from it running rich?

I am about 7k deliquent in having the 60k service done. I'll have them check that out. That leads me to another question. Would you be concerned with having a non-Lexus shop perform this service? A friend has a '96 LS and had a local garage perfoem his for around 300.00 vs 950.00 from the dealer. He seems to have had good luck. I'm just a little skeptical though. What are your thoughts?

It all depends on the shop ,if the guy is reasonable ( since lexus prices aren't) and reliable then go for it,if it is out of warrenty. If it is still under warrenty then have lexus do it to be on the safe side.
