Many have questions on how to program the Homelink buttons. It is in the owner's manual but sometimes it may be confusing to understand the terminology. I've summarized what the manual states, and hopefully this will help anyone in the future (as I have in the past already hehe)

I had to go through this routine 6 or 7 times before it actually worked.

Sometimes it could be the "learning" step that takes a long time and several trials before it works. Luckily, for the 2 or 3 times I had to program Homelinks, they worked like a charm on the first try hehe. But I'm glad you got it to work eventually. ;)

I followed these instructions (albeit not well apparently) and managed to clear both my handheld garage door openers. However, all was not lost. It forced me to dig out my garage door opener manual. Eureka! The instructions there were clear and concise and I was able, in less than five minutes, to reprogram both handhelds, my new Lexus RX350 and my husband's Corvette which we had been trying to program for three years. My bad, I should have gone there in the first place instead of the Internet which is usually the first place I go. Just for information purposes, our garage door opener is the rolling code kind. I simply held down the Homelink button in the car while my husband pressed and immediately released the red learning button on the actual opener, when the light on the actual opener blinked I released the button on the Homelink and when I pressed it again it worked perfectly.

I have on 07 RX and a Chamberlain liftmaster. It was a frustrating experience to say the least but I finally got it. Now that I've done it I can do it about 14-15 times and not even bat an eye.

What, for me, was the stumbling block was my liftmaster remote passing along the sequence to the Homelink remote BEFORE hitting the Learn button on the opener itself. Even though the liftmaster remote was like 1 inch away it wasn't "seeing it". I held down the '1' key and the liftmaster remote almost touching the 2 and 3 keys and that did the trick.

For anyone else out there, I recommend reading, re-reading, writing the instructions down and then doing it. dens, thanks for the tutorial. I can now cross this one off my list.

I took the car back to the dealership with an old clip-on garage door opener and the sales guy who sold me the car did it for me. if you have one of the newer rolling coder garage door openers, you have to do it on your driveway. Check youtube for how-to videos.

you can also go to the homelink website and have them contact you. (www.homelink.com) and they will help you set your garage opener up.

If your garage door opener has ROLLING CODE, you need to press the LEARNING (PROGRAM) button. Within 30sec, you need to press the HomeLink button that you want to program by press 2 times (some garage door opener may need to press 3 times on your HomeLink button). Make sure the previous program button is deleted.

I have two Genie garage door openers, one uses the old switch remote and the other use the rolling code type. On both I had to use the remote next to the homelink to program the homelink. After clearing the previous code (press outer buttons simultaneously). Press and hold the homelink button you want to program, hold the remote next to the homelink button and press the remote button until you see a fast flash on the homelink light. You are ready.

If you are trying to program homelink for rolling codes using the manual's instructions, you can disconnect the door from the door opener and stand on the door ledge to press the door opener training button (quicker than using a ladder).

^_^ Took a few tries but my deleting the stored codes (holding down buttons 1 and 3) I was able to program my garage door and the security gate to my community. AND.....get his I was getting an error code 4 on my CD player for the past 2 months when I swapped out a car battery. I knew it was a software issue....and for some darn reason after I cleared the homelink codes and programmed by garage door - the cd player works!!!!!! :D

On newer garage door openers a Homelink box may be needed to use with older autos. If you go to Homelinks web page or call them, they supply the boxes. The boxes run around 30.00 dollars.

It's called a Homelink Repeater, and I recently got one for just a $7 shipping price from Homelink for my '07 400h. It doesn't work very well, however, and I end up using the supplied remote instead of the Homelink buttons most of the time.

Thank you thank you. After spending HOURS with the owners manual, I turned to owners club for answers. By following the simple approach AND recognizing that my opener was Lift Master (not Sears) both my Lexus and my wifes VOlvo S60 are now programmed. Hurrah, on my BD no less.

Mine was confusing at first but the tech specialist at Lexus said I had a "rolling" number opener. All I had to do was hit the

learning switch on the opener then while it's light was still blinking push and hold for 2 seconds the #1 I wanted to program on my NX and do this two or three times.

On the third 2 second hold it connected and has worked perfectly. I didn't see any of that approach in the manual.

My Sear garage door opener Model# 139.53606 has no Learn button. Anybody know how to use Homelink on my Lexus Es350  2008 to open the door?

If your garage door opener does not have "LEARN" or "TRAINING" button, then follow steps 1 to 6 bellow:

STEPS 1-6 ARE REQUIRED FOR BOTH ROLLING CODE AND NON-ROLLING CODE TRANSMITTERS.

1. Unplug the garage door opener motor from the house current.

2. Hold the end of the garage door opener remote control 2 to 5 inches from HomeLink. Make sure you are not blocking your view of the red light in HomeLink.

3. Press and hold the remote control button and one of the HomeLink buttons at the same time. (Note: Canadian owner’s, see manual for additional instruction.)

4. The red light in HomeLink should begin flashing. It will flash slowly at first, then rapidly.

5. When the red light flashes rapidly, release both buttons. HomeLink should have learned the code from the remote control.

6. Plug in the garage door opener motor, then test the HomeLink Transceiver button by pushing it. If the button does not work, repeat this procedure to train again. If it still does not work, you may have a variable or rolling code garage door opener. See if you do by pressing the HomeLink transceiver button you just trained. If the red light blinks for 2 seconds, then stays on, you have a rolling code garage door opener. Go to step 7.

For rolling codes, you have to go through the instructions from number 1-6, and then start the rolling code procedures as follows.

7. Find the Training button on the garage or gate opener. Press and hold the button until the light next to the button comes on or blinks, then release it. You then have 30 seconds to complete the next step.

8. Press the button you just tried to train two times, holding it 3 to 4 seconds each time before releasing. The training light on the opener goes off. (Some systems may require you to press and release the button up to three times.)

9. Press the HomeLink button again to operate the garage door or gate opener.

Thanks for all your advice.  I have been trying for a couple of days to program a 2007 Lexus RX 350 to a Genie 7055 garage door opener. I finally contacted Homelink who while very nice still couldn't solve the issue. He did say some issue arise from using LED bulbs in the unit. Homelink last instructions were to press the Homelink button 3 times for 3 seconds  But I finally decided to try another Homelink button and it worked!  Don't know what was wrong with button #1 but button #2 worked on the first attempt.
