Hi dcfish

Me too! ..I have a european 2000 Lexus GS300 with some missing segments on the LCD display.

Not sure whether to replace the unit with an aftermarket one with bluetooth etc., but if you could let me know the price of [CWM4932] KEX-8176ZT LCD DISPLAY and shipping to the UK if you can still get hold of it that'd be great.

Thanks

Tom.

Hey I was reading around on this and I would also like to replace the lcd. Any information on replacing this would be appreciate. I also heard that it was possible to replace my 2000 Lexus GS300 Platinum Edition head unit with a 2002 which would allow for ipod integration as well. Any ideas?

Brian, I have a solution for the 2000 headunit to direct connect to an ipod. Leave your email or PM me.

Hi DCFish,

My 99 GS300 Pioneer headunit's backlight were all burned out (I can still read the channel info)! Is there any economical way to fix that? Please send info and quote to wahboy@hotmail.com. Could you please email me the solution to have the headunit directly connected to MP3 Player/IPOD? Thanks.

As soon as I get home ;)

I have two problems with the LCD display on my '99 GS300's Pioneer radio:

1) Some of the digits are garbled

2) The backlight is out on half of the display.

Could someone confirm whether or not replacing the LCD display will fix both problems?

Thank you!

The LCD is seperate from the PCB board which is where the 2 backlight bulbs are soldered in.

Thank you for the reply, dcfish.

Of course I wish the replacement of the LCD would fix both problems.. not my luck!

That brings up my next three questions:

Are the backlight bulbs incandescent or LEDs?

Are they readily, or special source (and if they are special source, does someone know a good source?)

Once the LCD is removed, is the PC board readily accessible?

Thank you again!

My stereo on my 01 gs430 went out and I ordered a used radio from ebay. After replacing with the new unit, I think it was from an GS300, the unit worked again except the backlight for the radio station portion did not work. I tried swapping out the front section from my original unit with the replacement unit and still had the same issue. Is this something that can be fixed with a new lcd or is it a wiring issue with the main body of the replacement stereo? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

In my view, these stereos are unquestionably defective. There is no legitimate reason for the LCD unit to require replacement--ever. The LCD unit on my GS300 has gone bad twice. The first time occurred when the car was less than 2 years old, and Lexus simply replaced the whole radio under the factory warranty. The second time happened just recently. There are several ways to take care of it when your LCD fails. Lexus does not repair the radios. If not under warranty, your dealer will charge you around $1500 or more, depending on the model, to replace the radio with a new one, or $700 to $800 for a rebuild (if they can find one). My unit was a Pioneer model. Pioneer will sell you a replacement LCD unit. Cost is about $109.95 for my model. I understand the work is simple, once you have the radio removed from the car. Just a few bolts to remove to take out the defective LCD and replace it with a new one. I am aware of two repair shops who will remove and replace your LCD unit (after you remove the radio from your car and send it to them). One is located in Florida and one is in Connecticut. I found the Florida shop from a post on this web site. I found the CT shop on ebay. Both charge $140 for the work. I understand they get wholesale pricing from Pioneer. I used the Florida one. I mailed the radio to them last Wednesday. They received it on Friday, replaced the LCD unit that same day, charged me $140 plus $20 for return shipping, and put it in the mail this past Friday. I'm supposed to receive it next week. The Florida company is Factory Car Stereo Repair, Inc. (407) 830-0777. The Connecticut shop is Jodis Repair Center (860) 953-1679. I used a local car stereo shop to remove the radio from the dash. That shop will reinstall it once it is fixed. Total charges from the local shop for r&r was $45.

Hi I have the same problem of missing LCD numbers, symbols on the radio. I have bought the LCD panel from pioneer already .Have not put it in yet. Could you please email the directions for doing so to rlnelson5@comcast.net Does this include how to remove the radio from the car?

thanks

Being that this is a pretty common issue shouldn't this be pinned as a FAQ?
