Custom Taillight Conversion

I just recently completed the Taillight conversion explained in this forum (red top, clear bottom), and it looks great! I love them! But to anyone who is thinking about doing this, I must warn you it is not a Saturday morning job. I figured it would take around a couple of hours. But it actually took me and a friend about 10 hrs to complete the taillights, but I believe it was worth it.

First of all, the oven technique does work quite well, and it's nice to have a heat gun on hand as well.

The amount of glue and the glue itself that holds the light together is rediculous. It took us around 5 or 6 hrs. just to get the tailight, frame, and lenses out.

Cutting the diffusing plastic is kindof hard, we ended up using a machine that cut keys to cut the plastic, and then we used a drimal tool to file any unneeded. Fitting the plastic in the lights is really hard, it's practically impossible to put the whole piece of platic in at once, it is best to cut it into sections (like the lenses were). And the plastic also doesnt fit in by itself so we used a glue gun and it worked pretty well.

We used a heat gun to melt the glue and stick the taillight back together, we didnt use the oven b/c we were afraid it would melt the hot glue and the diffusing plastic would fall out. We also had to melt some of the plastic edging on the light to form it back flat like it was before we started trying to prying apart in the beginning.

The light bulbs used were 1156 (2 orange, 4 red)

I dont know if I would do this conversion again b/c it took so long and at times it was very frustrating. But it looks really good and I have had several compliments on my lights. I would suggest anyone who has time and patience to do this b/c it looks really hot.
