How To Reset Ecu?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 GS430 with 85,000 miles I just recently did a tune up on.

I completed an all synthetic fluids change (oil, trans, dif, break fluid, coolant), replaced: ngk iridiums IX's, optima battery, alternator, timing belt, cam seals, etc) also: cleaned the fuel tank and filter, intake manifold and throttle body. I would now like to reset the ECU to adapt to the new settings.

PROBLEM: It is currently wanting to run very rich with the clean system. Almost seems to be stuck in choke (temperatures 20-50 degrees here).

After reseting the ECU, any procedure to program the computer or will it learn on its own?

Help would be much appreciated with gas prices being the way they are. It's drinking a good bit of gas. Thanks again

The computer should relearn appropriate fuel to air ratios fairly quickly but if you want you can just disconnect the negative battery termind for a few minutes and then reconnect. It could be that one of your 02 sensors is on its way out also. I'd put my money on the sensor.

I agree with dj. Check your front o2 sensors and their grounding. Make sure the ground is connected to clean not corroded metal. If they're going, you may not be getting any codes for them yet from the ecu because they're flying under the radar and the ecm is compensating.

With the miles I may as well go ahead and replace them. Any suggestions on good brands? I've bought 02 sensors in the past that have been so universal that they made matter worse. Anything close to OEM or better on this vehicle?
