TomTA Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 How do these shocks work. Just hold the trunk lid up after it is opened manually, or should they lift the trunk when you release the latch?
JDM_Johnny Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 they should open your trunk when you open it or well mine do at least, if yours are shot just get some from ebay, its only like $25 to your door
UCF3 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I don't think they'll shoot up by themselves. I've replaced mine and they don't, but they'll shoot up with a little push.

I expected them to lift the trunk once it was released, but you have to lift the trunk the first half a foot or so and it will continue to do the job and should hold it up fine.
JohnH Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Replaced mine a couple years ago when I kept getting bonked on the head. I replaced them with the stiffer ones that must used when a spoiler is attached to the trunk. I don't have a spoiler, but I figured these will last longer, and open better. They do..! Just a little touch of the trunk and it flies open, (watch your face). Here's where I got mine. http://www.buyautoparts.com/addtocarts/199...runk_Strut.html I don't think they'll shoot up by themselves. It would be nice if they made some strong enough to 'pop' the trunk lid on it's own (with spoiler). I replaced mine just two years ago too, and almost immediately they started acting just like the old ones. I must have bought the ones for a non-spoiler trunk lid by mistake. They get really weak in cold weather. Just letting go of the lid half-way up makes it slam shut like it was thrown closed - no resistance at all.
