HankJ
I just had a new windshield put on my LS, but now I can't see the VIN from the outside. There's some tape or something covering it. My dealer says that's fine, even a good thing. This way, he says, theives can't copy the VIN and order keys to steal my car. I think that this is cr#p, but I'm not sure about the legality. Anyone out there know? Thanks, Hank

etex
Might check with your local Department of Public Safety. A phone call should be sufficient.
Paul Sherman
I don't see where that would necessarily be a legal requirement. Many many older vehicles don't have them visible at all. (my '69 Chevy pickup and 40 Chevy street rod). In many states, the vehicle ID was the engine serial #, sure ruined things when folks started swapping engines. After that, it wasn't standardized until the late 70's or 80's (I think).
