jmli
I've got a '92 Lexus LS400 and it's in reasonably good condition, meaning the cd player, radio, etc. all is in perfect working condition. However, I've finally gotten around to buying one of those cassette tape adapters so I can play my iPod in the car. However, after buying a Belkin one that didn't work, I bought another brand that worked in two other cars (my mother's RX300 and a friend's Taurus) but still doesn't work in my car. Is this more likely a problem with my tape player (I wouldn't know why though) or a problem with kind of tape player that my car has? Thanks for any help. raymsixsix
Hey JM, did you try reversing the play direction of the cassette? Not trying to be sarcastic :) Mine plays in one direction, and not the other

jmli
Hey JM, did you try reversing the play direction of the cassette? Not trying to be sarcastic :) Mine plays in one direction, and not the other heh, i can try, but the wire only comes out one way? It makes this clicking kind of noise, or like something is getting scraped inside and the tape won't play, so it pops the tape right out. the cassette slides right in and the wire is on the right side, so i didn't really consider putting it in the other way. OmarG
nakamichi or pioneer? Pioneer; would it make a difference? I guessed as much...It totally makes a difference. Pioneer tape players suck major balls(after 15 years). They hiss alot and they go bad all the time (very un lexus like!) Trust me, i bought so many pioneer stereos , about 4, not including the faulty ones in the cars(2 ls400s). Thats 6 faulty decks. There is hope though. Find a 90-92 nakamichi. They have the same connectors and the tape player is awesome and sound is much clearer. Also you will get a more bass, mid and treble. Never skips much less hiss and they are very well built. DONT GET 93-94, they wont fit. Trust me. Find a nak! 90-92.

Hey JM, I'm sorry I should have been more clear. I meant pressing the button that reverses the direction of play for the tape. I'm not sure if this will help cosnidering your cassette player is making clicking noises, and ejecting the tape etc. Good luck bud

jmli
okay i've looked at it again, but it seems like there's no such button to reverse the direction.
OmarG
i paid about 55 or 60 shipped for 1 nak radio from some junkyard in ohio . It was worth it for me. I use my ipod all the time, dont have a cd changer and i hate hate hate the stupid radio. Fm transmitters suck balls too. Oh and i hate the way aftermarket radios look in the Lex. They look cheap and chintzy IMO (no offense to others to each his own :) ) So for me a nak deck was the only solution. You could also have a specialist rebuild your pioneer but thats pushing $180... and pioneer doesnt sound as good. Seriously though, nak tape players sound like cd players. They are fantastic. They produce very little hiss. Hope this helps! :D There is a reverse, its radio button 1. OMG found one on ebay. Buy now LKQ is great. buy now dude! ends in 40 nimutes http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-91-92-LS...sspagenameZWDVW

My OEM pioneer cassette deck works like new, tapes dont hiss, they sound like CD's, really. I have a cheap 25 buck Ebay Chi-pod and a Belkin Cassette adapter and it sounds GREAT! I had some in the past that were very bad along with a FM transmitter type that was more expensive and sounded nasty, even on a vacant station, it would fade and pick up other stuff, would not recomend at all. I would like to get a Nak one day, but this stereo works great so far. One thing I would like a little more would be the tuner sensativity, I can do a scan and itll only stop on 3 stations and Im in L.A. I can manually tune it and its alright, but I would suspect the tuner to stop at all stations, not just 3.
fisher972002
Hmm, Yeah, I just use one I bought from apple.com and it works great on my 1991 w/Pioneer.. It sounds awesome as that tape player used the hi powered amp and not the *BLEEP*ty radio..LOL.. Maybe it's the belkin thing, but I dunno if other tapes work, I would assume it would be the tape interface itself, get one from apple.com, mine's worked for a year wonderfully. Just slip the ipod in the ashtray.
