Noob Here Looking For Advice On Installing An Aftermarket Dvd/navigati

Recommended Posts

I'm new to lexusownersclub.com but a fairly seasoned Lexus owner. I've had my '02 GS 430 a little over a year and I got my sights set on installing the Panasonic Strada CN-NVD905U. It's a double din unit similar to the Pioneer and Eclipse brands that have the built in 30 gb hard drive. I've attempted searching the forums but really couldn't find the exact answers I was looking for. I have two main questions but I know others my arise as I get closer to my goal: 1.)Where can I get a compatible double din bracket or mounting kit? and 2.)For those who have installed any type of aftermarket system in a GS 430, is it a fairly complicated process? In regards to question 2, a friend of mines who pretty car savvy and used to do installs for Best Buy says that installing anything in a GS 430 with a Mark Levinson system requires a complete rewire because of the radio being tied to the car's computer/security system/etc. From his perspective, the process to do such an installation is extensive and expensive so he has me a little shook about even pursuing my goal. Here's a description of what I'm trying to throw in:

Strada CN-NVD905U

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Next to impossible to integrate an aftermarket nav into the system. Standalone is your only real choice. Good Luck............. :whistles:

If your car did does not have the factory nav, it would be cheaper (and less of a hassle) to sell your car and buy one with nav. I saw exactly what you need in regards to the double DIN harness. I will check and have it for you soon.

Hey thanks Ronalder for the link to the double din kit....that's one piece of the puzzle solved. That picture is exactly what I'm trying to achieve for my car. Is the installation for such a component that difficult? I by no means was going to try it myself but was gonna get a friend who does installations on the side do it. If it is, I may opt to go with a professional local audio shop.

This is an OEM kit so I do not think it will be difficult; try it yourself 1st if not let a professional complete the install.

It will never integrate with all of the factory capabilities. Compromise...........
