the rim diameter and the inside bead diameter of the rim have to match

or else it will not seat to hold the air in

Thanks, but I could go wider though right? I'm gonna have to get new tires in a few thousand miles and I think the car would look a little better with bigger/wider tires if possible.

going up one ratio is usually no problem

if it says 215/60 16 then go to a 225/55 16

just ask the tire shop for a best fit

on sizes

that is only an example for a width change

Years ago a friend of mine had a 70 something 429 Ford. He put new tires on it and had one hell of a time getting one tire off. It was a 14" tire mounted on a 15" rim :o .
