Hi all;

I have a'93 LS400 and wanted to let you know that it's actually quite easy

to hook the factory sub to an aftermarket deck (with sub outputs, of course).

I know - some are asking why, when there's better sub options out there?

I say - why not, even the factory sub is better than no sub at all.

After hooking the aftermarket deck up using Lexls excellent instructions,

this part starts.

It's simply a matter of making an adaptor cable; RCA phono to 'custom'

pins (one leg of spade connector) and plugging them into the existing

deck output and sub harness.

If interested, I'll post the photos, but need to scale them down - their

file size is too big right now. I haven't done a step-by-step, if there's

enough interest, I'll put it together.

Can you upload a photo of how your subwoofer is connected to your factory amplifier in the trunk? (if you have it, that is...) I'm trying to restore my stereo back to OEM but can't figure out where should the +/- wires from the subwoofer go into the amplifier.

Thanks

I would GREATLY appreciate a tutorial on how to do this. Maybe even a small PayPal donation.

There are two possibilities:

- Serial

- Parallel

If you hook up your speakers in serial, you add their impedances.

example: 2 + 2 = 4 ohms

example: 4 + 4 = 8 ohms

If you hook up your speakers in parallel, you add their inverses.

example: 1/(1/2 + 1/2) = 1 ohm

example: 1/(1/4 + 1/4) = 2 ohms

Since you have two identical speakers (and not more), this can be simplified as follows:

Serial => multiply impedance by 2

Parallel => divide impedance by 2

How to hook them up:

Serial:

Amp + to Speaker A +

Speaker A - to speaker B +

Speaker B - to Amp -

Parallel:

Amp + to Speaker A + and Speaker B +

Amp - to Speaker A - and Speaker B -

This seems to be the best thread re. getting the factory subwoofer to work with an aftermarket head. I'm going to give it a try. Anybody figure out how to get the CD changer to work with the aftermarket head?
