My rear wiper on my 1996 LX450 suddenly stopped working. I haven't started the troublshooting process but I thought I'd see if anyone wants to hazard a guess as to what the problem might be.

Let's start with the simplest first...

have you checked the fuse box?

Fuses are ok. I seem to have a ground short as the wiper will work when touching a test light to any part of the wiper motor and ground. Also, the center overhead light only works when that is done. Must be a short in the wiring feeding the wiper motor.

yeah, it sounds like a short.

probably near the rear hatch. I hate having to pull the headliner for anything because it's pretty fragile and VERY expensive, but you might need to loosen the rear portion a bit to track down where the short is.

check the obvious places first though...

have you posted over at www.ih8mud.com? or searched the 80series technical forum archives over there? Perhaps something like this has been seen and reported there.

Seems like when freaky stuff starts happening towards the rear end, often it gets traced back to a short somewhere in the tow lights wiring harness. Might check there first.
