  1. Check you universal joints. quote name='roversii' date='09 August 2010 - 07:32 AM' timestamp='1281360732' post='416672'] Hi, I have a '97 LX450 with close to 200K miles. Between 55mph and 80mph I have a loud rumbling sound (like a bad muffler, but the whole exhaust system is fine and the tires were recently aligned during the last oil change). It stops when I coast. It is at its worst when I am running at a constant speed. It is at its maximum level between 65 and 75mph and I can also feel it in the car but seems to subside as I hit 80mph. When I am accelerating or going up a hill it is reduced, but doesn't go away totally. Any thoughts? Differential? Something else? Thanks, roversii
  2. Fuses are ok. I seem to have a ground short as the wiper will work when touching a test light to any part of the wiper motor and ground. Also, the center overhead light only works when that is done. Must be a short in the wiring feeding the wiper motor.
  3. My rear wiper on my 1996 LX450 suddenly stopped working. I haven't started the troublshooting process but I thought I'd see if anyone wants to hazard a guess as to what the problem might be. Jim
  4. thanks jim, was that just the shocks or springs as well. My understanding is that OME makes a number of different shocks for the LX (depending on desired effect i guess), do you recall which ones you got? tks Sorry for the slooooww response. Computer problems and travel have kept me off the forum for a while. Anyway, the OME shocks and suspension I bought was the standard set for 96 LX450, recommended by the 4X4 shop that did the install. They were not extra-stiff or anything like that. Might want to go stiffer if you have a wench, which I didn't.
  5. I had the suspension replaced with an OME (Old Man Emu) on my '96 450LX about 3 years ago and it made all of the difference in the world. Before, mine felt like a bass boat in the ocean when running about 65 mph. Now the handling is taut and the ride is a bit firmer but still quite comfortable. As I recall, the whole job costs about $1200 but well worth it. Previously, the Lexus dealer had replaced the shocks with Landcruiser shocks and that helped but not enough.
