Blackberry Bluetooth Can't Hear Ringing.... Frustration

I have a 2006 Lexus GX 470 with the factory installed bluetooth kit. I have the Pearl and my wife has the 8700c (both from Cingular). While the bluetooth works fine for the most part - my biggest frustration is that the bluetooth will not turn on until the call is connected (you can't hear the ringing) when I dial using the blackberry device.

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

Thank you!!!

I would checkout Blackberry Forums because I seem to remember that it is a security feature on the Blackberry that will only allow you to use the bluetooth device as a speaker and mic, like if you were wearing a bluetooth earpiece. The security is in place to protect all your information such as emails and such. Hope this helps!

Lexus may want it that way. Forced you to use bluetooth properly

That is not true. If this handsfree kit worked properly, it would allow for the voice recognition from the phone to be integrated into the hands-free device. It would also allow you to dial from the address book on your phone since it's all but impossible to transfer the contents to the Lexus bluetooth. It would definately allow you to hear the ringing before the person answers causing a major delay and lost calls.

I love my GX but am surprised that Lexus has such a horrible bluetooth system integrated. After having the car for more than a year I was hoping an update would be available to correct these issues. My dealer (Germain) in Columbus, OH blames the blackberry and not the Lexus. They have told me to either buy a different phone, install a 3rd party bluetooth kit or use the nav screen for dialing. While i agree these are all alternatives, it does not correct that fact that my phone was listed as being compatable with the GX BEFORE I bought the car - only to find out that it is not compatable at all.

Germain has also told me that there are *never* updates made available to the bluetooth system. Is this true?

I have a Blackberry 8703 with Verizon and we have the same bluetooth system in the Prius, I have no such issues. When I connect a call I hear ringing and then the person picks up. Theres a slight delay upon hitting the answer button and when it answers, but I find thats the same with a bluetooth headset too.

As for your criteria of what would make a good Bluetooth system, the technology isn't there yet. You can for instance dial using your Blackberry's address book, but you have to do it on your phone. There is no way for the system to pair with your phone and share its address book with the nav screen.

As for voice recognition, Blackberrys have no voice recognition and the new Toyota/Lexus Bluetooth system has a voice dialing function and a voice dial by number function.

I find the system works just fine, you just have to understand that the technology for this Blackberry phone thing everybody is doing is not quite there yet.
