Window Tint Bad?

i got my first ever car tint, and during night time driving, car headlights behind me scatter vertically along the defroster lines. Is this normal? or did the guy stick it on improperly? i think they used 2 big sheets of tint on the back window.

Some say that will go away after the tint dries out for a couple weeks. It may not entirely disappear though.

After I had my 00 LS tinted in 2003, the light scatter on the rear window defroster grid did decrease somewhat after a few weeks -- but it is still very noticable. A bigger issue is that the rear window tint interferes with the automatic dimming inside and outside mirrors. After the tint, the mirrows dim when a car is only a about hundred feet behind. Before the tint, the mirrors would dim when a car was much furthur, perhaps 1/8 mile or more, behind.

This is not normal, I too have a similar problem, but on a 2007 Honda Civic coupe.

The halo effect is caused by tint material and rear defroster line contact.

From reading other threads (do a search), ceramic tint may be a better alternative.

I haven't tinted my ES350 due to the potential 'halo' affect.

Once tint has been installed on the rear windshield, you risk damaging the defroster lines upon removal of the original tint.

My advice is to do your homework, ask around, and maybe view previous tine work done by installers.

I've had my Civic tinted for almost one year now and the 'halo' affect has not gone away, so if a tint installer is giving you that line - bull crap.

All tint film and methods of applying are not equal. I've had numerous installs done to my 5 Lexi without experiencing this phenomenon. What I've used was a tint house that uses a computerized film cutter where the rear window was done with a single sheet of film. The entire car takes about 1 hour to complete, and has exhibited none of the rear window phenom. that you've experienced, even from day one.

I have that problem with my Camry but I've gotten used to driving with it. Never had any safety issues.

Might be a bad job! Check out the type of film the guy used. I had mine done with Madico films and it is an Awesome job! In fact I having the front windshield done in ceramic clear in the next few weeks to eliminate IR and UV A and UV B Rays!
