whlin76 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I am thinking about buying an IS 250 with manual transmission. However according to Lexus, it only gets 20/29 mpg which is about 20% worse than the IS 250(RWD) with auto transmission which gets 24/32 mpg, and about the same as the IS 350 wich gets 21/28. Is this right? First of all, I don't see how this is possible since manual transmission traditionally gets better gas mileage versus the auto trans. Secondly, the fact that it's "worse" by 20% seems unrealistic. Could anyone who owns an IS 250 with manual transmission attest to this fact? What are your "actual" gas mileage? If you would share your likes/dislikes about the car and anything that might be useful to know in terms of helping me decide whether to get the manual vs. auto. would certainly be appreciated. I've always driven cars with manual trans. and would like to continue to do so but not when I'm going to get a 20% penalty in gas mileage with such a high fuel prices these days. Thanks!

All I can say is I got the automatic. My overall mileage is around 27.6 mpg, and my tank average is usually around 28 mpg, better on the highway...... The manual drive wasn't around when I bought mine, and I didn't want to have to have to drive it in the traffic on my way to work. The auto has pick-up-and-go when you really need it. You just gotta put your foot into it a little bit. Although, there goes your gas mileage if you're driving like that all the time!! lol.
