Changing Color Of Instrument Cluster

First i would like to say that this forum is great, it has helped me with many mods and questions. I have done alot of searching and i understand how to remove the instrument cluster but what if i wanted to change the color of the gauges? Is it just simply changing the color of the LED's or does the faceplate actually determine the color of the gauge lighting?

I see that they have both 194 bulbs and LED's. I assume the stock is bulbs but will the 194 LED's work and function properly? i just seem to find many more 194 led's than bulbs
