try4par Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 During a service my GS400 had the overflow bottle cap lost. I inquired at lexus who promptly ordered another. Except it doesn't fit. It's ever so slightly to small. The dealer checked and even ordered a second cap only to have the same thing happen. This car is stock and never injured. The only comment that Lexus had was that there were upgrades and since the bottle is built into the fan shroud that I could replace the entire shroud. Oh yeah....that's cheap and by the way the shroud :cries: isn't broken. Can't find a wrecked gs400 in phoenix, but more importantly how and where can I get the correct cap. Duck tape with a hole in it just isn't a "Lexus" Would appreciate any help....Thanx
new big400 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Who did the service?Maybe they should be tracking this down for you.Unless of course you did it.
try4par Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Actually Lexus did it, That is what has me concerned. The attitude of "oh well" guess you can replace the whole shroud (at my cost). This is a simple little plastic cap that, my guess, is that they outsource for the part and it has been made wrong. Now how many of these do you think they replace in a year? 10 maybe, so my voice alone is not getting anyone to look into it. In the mean time I have tape on the bottle. I sure wish someone knew where I could get the replacement so I could get past this. Thanx

Thanx Have the dealer take one off a car in the lot and see if it fits ( just a thought ) Have them check earlier model part #'s against current #'s This should be a simple fix for any dealer. Is there any way of shaving the cap ? Good Luck and keep us posted on the results.

Thanx What kind of dealer is that?If the dealer did it than they should be more than willing to fix it.Lexus prides itself on its service.Have you spoken to a manager or customer satisfaction rep?If they broke it have them fix it!
GuyTelefunken Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 From the services I have personally recieved at Lexus dealers, I almost cannot believe that this is how your dealer is treating you. I totally agree that if they caused this problem, it is their responsibility to correct it; and with an apology to you as well. If this necessitates that they replace the entire cooling system to get the part to fit, than so be it. Time to call coorporate; start rolling heads. 1-800-255-3987 Monday – Friday, 5:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., PT. Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., PT Fax: 1-310-468-2992 Address: The Lexus Customer Assistance Center P.O. Box 2991 – Mail Drop L201 Torrance, CA 90509-2991 Your situation is total bulls**t. It was the carelessness of someone at the dealership that lost your part and now they need to replace it. It's as simple as that. What if they had lost your key? What if it was your only key? Would they expect you to pay for new keys and the ECM that you would need to replace? If you get absolutely nowhere, here's a thought. If they have a similar car on their lot for sale, take it for a test drive. Drive it home to your garage.

SKperformance Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 I am not sure from the post that Lexus did the service but another shop did which is why they are not extending their hand in helping more. What year is your car?
try4par Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 Thanx for the response. My car is a "98" The dealer did not have one on the floor or lot for that matter. The 430s changed considerably. Thanx for the corporate numbers. I will call to see if I can get help. I'll let you know
try4par Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Well I have been to corporate and they checked the part number and they checked to see if there was an upgrade with an answer of "no". They pushed me back to the dealer with a good luck. I had asked the dealer to check stock and they had no GS400. Only GS430 which is completely different. So at this point I am having a car part friend of mine looking at the scrap yards and looking fro a GS300 or GS400. They both have the same cooling set up. At least that is what Corporate told me.........
