sapper_daddy
I still need to download a service manual. I am trying to get together all the parts to change my timing belt and some other things. On the lexls site it say's timing belt idler no1 and 2 all i can find is one make of bearing for that. Can anyone give me the part no. for both of them. Is it the same part no? How hard is it to just change the bearing for them? Can you even get the whole assembly? The parts store just lists one assembly for it. I don't get it what gives. Also i am changing the following parts while i do this. plugs plug wires timing belt drive belt tensioner idlers thermostat, gasket distributors rotors waterpump as far as spark plugs go i've never messed with this type of vehicle do i need these little plug seals i've never heard anyone mention them but i see them listed as i said i need to get a service manual if there are any other parts that anyone could suggest to change when i do this project let me know cause the only other teardowns i will do on this 200,00 mile car is a rack and pinion rebuild and change motormounts at same time and then uca bushings
blake918
It sounds like you have a good game plan; I'd just add the cam and crank seals to the list (not a question of if they leak but when! lol). ;) The two idlers are different... http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...=19&catalogid=1 I would be suprised if you could find just the bearing; Lexus still makes evey nut and bolt that goes on your car! ;;)
sapper_daddy
yeah i've been trying to plan it out before i buy into it all. the car was free so i can't complain. i am just really trying to figure out what i need to replace or rebuild the idlers. hopefully it will all fall into place pretty well. i love that car!!! blake918
Those look like the right parts, but I don't know...they aren't that much cheaper than the OEM parts (Park Place offers free shipping and no sales tax too!). "Cheap" doesn't do me justice, but I'd splurge on the real Lexus parts for the timing belt componets. Having changed the timing belt in my 95, I'd be uncomfortable using generic brands especially since it takes such a long time to do (6-8 hours probably). swordfish
hi there i recently did the whole timng belt job myself, and would also recommend you do the ACCESSORY belt tensioner pulley brg and idler brg. These were quite worn and squeaky. I know you dont have to go all the way in to the engine to do them later, but hey why do anything twice? bought them from lexus and then a mechanic friend said the brg was a very common one on taxis, and he pressed them in to the old pulleys for me $15 each, so I took the lex ones back and got my $100 each back. The toyota soarer site in Aus mentioned the timing belt idler brg and tensioner brg could be matched at a brg specialist and pressed in for much less than the oem part cost. Down load all your instructions from lexls.com and lextreme.com. cheers almost forgot, yes- 2 cam seals, one crank seal. Imagine if they start leaking, you got to go in again and do it all over. LANLEX
my email is cullen.stagg@us.army.mil lemme know what you got as far as part numbers I don't know if the parts for 1994 are any different than 1991. But here are the part number for 1991 LS400: Timing belt tensioner 13540-50022 ~ $39.37 Idler pulley no.1 13505-50022 ~ $98.00 Idler pulley no.2 13503-0F010 ~ $63.00 Crank seal 90311-A0001 ~ $7.00 Camm seal 90311-38036 ~ $5.55/ea. (You'd need two cam seals) I bought my parts from www.irontoad.com You can send them a request for parts. They will quote with part number for your specific vehicle. Hope this helps. alsalih
You might want to look at www.autohausaz.com for common parts like timing belt idler and tensioner bearings as they are the OEM make (Koyo or NSK) bearings but they are much cheaper then anywhere else(FYI, I have no affiliation with this site). However, the water pump and timing belt I would only buy from the dealer as these to me are critical components and you don't want to risk buying a timing belt that's been sitting on a shelf for two years. Also, another site I like is www.drivewire.com. Like Swordfish noted, you most likely could use new bearings for the accessory belt idler and tensioner pulley and you might also carefully inspect the condition of the bearing for the clutch fan mount bracket.
