Hello, Dave what year is your car? I got a 98 es 300 and I got the engine light on also, but cant figure out the problem is.

The ES 300 is a 98'. Having searched for the p0402 code as suggested, it seems it may be related to the egr valve. I will continue to focus on this egr valve. Where is it? How do i clean it? Thanks!

I would like to add that yesterday I cleared the check engine light and trac-off lights. I then let the car run for some time with the lights staying off. I noted that when I accelerated hard the car stumbled. At this point, the check engine light and "trac off" light came on. So, it appears that the egr sensed rich fuel from the stumble and reported back? So is it true to say that the egr valve is likely doing its job and the car is just running bad? Thanks for reviewing this.
