i have an nasty oil leak that killed my altinator, at the end of the distributor shaft going into the engine block its leaking oil, i guess this is a common problem because of the catch pan under the distrib. cap

its on a 97 sc3,...

so guys how bad is it?

i forgot to mention the lack of the shop manual-

my friend says its a sh**ty long process because of engine timing

any info is good info to me at this point

Sounds like your passenger side cam seal is bad. Its a pretty simple process. You remove the pessanger side front cover and use a hanger to hook the timing belt while you can change the cam seal. It should not take more then 30 minutes. Good luck...

Actually I think it is your distributor O-ring.

Not a big deal to replace it if you have done any car repairs yourself in the past.

You should probably also replace the rotor, cap, and dust seal while you are at it because there will be a coating of oil all over the inside of the cap.

The timing is not a big problem. You can use a timing light to adjust after you put it back together, or you can carefully mark the adjustment before you remove the distributor. Both will work well.

I did mine last year with great results.

Good luck.

Tom
